Let’s have a new year and new start with the attitude.

If you want to argue and wind up others about the 2020 Defender go elsewhere and don’t spoil this forum.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

100% agree with Martin.

You can like or not the new Defender and choose it or not for several different reasons that in some sort are more related with your personal tastes or for what do you like it.

Cheers and have a very nice 2020! Eduardo

a very good point Dan, In Oz, LR owners do have more of a tendency to stick together Thumbs Up
whether you have a Defender, Disco 1,2,3,4, Rangie Sport etc. we have enough crap to contend with
the Nissan and Toyota brigade..who believe the whole LR brand is tainted and not capable. There are quite a few
owners (including moi) in OZ that get their "chelsea tractors/mall crawlers" as some people here would brand them out into
the wilds and test them to what they have been designed to do.. it is a pity we not only have to
deal with the prejudices of the Tojo brigade, but listen to the vitriol and prejudice put up by a few members on
here as well.

I look forward to receiving my new P400 in the middle of 2020, and reporting on some off road
adventures in the future on some of the great places in Australia it will visit, which we have many of..
at the end of the day I am a Land Rover fan, i have had the pleasure since i passed my test 40 years ago in
an Army Lightweight Airportable..of driving many variations including FFR's, Mineproofs,
etc ever since.. but i am also happy to have owned and driven D1's, D2's, RR Classic and 2 RR Sports.

And yet you appear to be happy to slate existing Defender owners?

I would offer my MY10 Range Rover Sport has done as much or more off road time than many of the those that spout against the MY20 Defender on here, who have never tested a modern land rover
in challenging off road conditions, if they had, i suspect they would not be so vocal and anti to the new vehicle.
and may show a little bit more appreciation ... right Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Question: has this Chelsea tractor done more off road than your defender (West Yorks/KL).. lets compare

Then phrase the question in less pejorative language and others can engage in an adult manner.

Hardly "vitriol and prejudice"; however, I can see that joke went down the wrong way with you - so I'm happy to apologise to you for it and I will delete it if you feel that is necessary?

Short answer is yes, having owned two RRS. The truth is that no 4x4 actually offers the fun per mile once you have played with an amphibious 6x6:

And I doubt anyone could afford the panel damage alone from the bumps and scrapes this one has been through. I put it down to watching too much Camel Trophy in my formative years...

hmm i cannot argue against a 6x6, some of my mates on a high country Victorian trip with their chelsea tractors/mall crawlers.. nearly as much fun i would suspect.. i could not make the day as i was stuck in India working Evil or Very Mad

The MY11 sport was on stock standard continental tyres.. not even AT/MTR .. the owner (hydronic) has since passed on,
the rest i keep in touch with.. the guy that does the video (Jamie) , massive LR fan, has a Defender, RR Sport, all
treated with the same deference from an off road perspective

my point to the previous post is, many people who own Disco's, Rangie Sports etc do enjoy
getting them out of the school run, just wished people on here would not be so derogatory
about us owners and in particular those who will go to the new Defender, i for one will enjoy
introducing it to the same level of off road combat Laughing yet another pommie bar steward down under

...reason i genuinely dislike pretender is mostly because, in my humble opinion, such products systematically destroying LR as brand, which i care for..they simply cant sell enough of these cars(or any other new incarnation of previous models), to make any self sustaining financial income...and having pretender in form as it is, is missed opportunity to sort of, 'turn tables' in favor of LR, considering 'legendary' status of series/defender...they blow it up...

As for of road..I did had such experience with my P38 (completely stock, no modifications) here in Malaysia, together with some folks with new LR variants of RR, disco, which were despite their 'advanced off road tech', needed to be rescued (all stock cars with fancy low profile tyres)..another event was with one of my defenders, but it was not some sort of of road to be proud of, which is okay, as soon as it went trough fine while mall crawlers need to be towed out..

Anyway, i really dislike JLR attitude towards their products which really doesnt serve brand well, and ballance sheet clearly shows that...this is the main reason, apart from many less relevant, why i truly dislike pretender...
