Washer jet nozzle maintenance.
Right this has been posted in the "Technical" section as it is rather technical.
Christmas is almost upon us and thus there will be lots of gifts flying about. Some of these will been securely held in place in a box by lengths of plastic ties with a thin metal strip in the middle. These can be very useful so keep some.
If you pare back the plastic with a knife, you might want to get an older responsible person to use the knife, you can expose the metal strip. This is ideal for poking into the washer jets to unblock them. You can expose enough of the wire to go right down in to the nozzle. I always carry a piece with me for this purpose.

Personally I just use a pin.

My old dad told me when I bought my first car to stick a pin into the edge of the sun-visor so it is always available to unblock / adjust the washer nozzles.

Always done it and it has never let me down. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

OK, in the washer jet theme....

My Td5, has the weakest front washer pump going.... it's crap.

Anyone suggest a replacement pump that can be made to fit the washer bottle easily-ish (without spending the small fortune for that nice aluminium adaptor to fit the disco Td5 pump)

I'm not bothered about fitting anothe vehicles' make of pump and bonding it into place with tiger seal.... that should do the trick!

Would just like some better pressure and flow. I've already fitted 2x standard twin jets to the front screen, just need more water there. (don't want pipes up the wiper arms either)

Swap over to the rear pump? It is more powerful anyway.

It is as easy as swapping over the electrical connections and the pipes.

You could consider trying a headlight/windscreen washer pump for a Discovery3 or Range Rover.
quick search revealed part number DMC500020 instead of original DMC100540/DMC100550

I guess it'll fit into the seal and use same type of connectors
from the pictures it seems to have the same connections

as a general rule headlight washer pumps - especially when they only spray and don't have wipers helping out -
need a lot of spraying power in order to clean the headlights.

according to fuse box diagram
Discovery 3 -> headlight/windscreen washer 25A
Defender Puma -> rear wipers/wash 10A "Don't drink and drive. You might spill your drink."

Thats a lovely picture Whistle Embarassed this was before i fitted the disco 3 headlight washer pump too. absolutelt incredible with a 10mm internal diameter feed pipe and the new pump! *** new pump needs to be fed from a rel,ay though as the power required to make it pump is around the 17Amp mark!! works extremely well though! 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html

I've just done a little digging, the LR pump DMC100550 is a Durite 0-594-61

I think the problem I had/have with my current pump is it came in either a blue or white (bearmach) box... IIRC either way it didn't exactly astonish me when I first fitted it... .so might try the durite one.

Good idea Kallilto... might try something like that also....

I use a Disco 2 headlight washer pump for the screen, and (IIRC) a Rover Metro headlight washer pump for the headlight jets. The pumps are actually the same alert from the angle of the outlet, the Rover pump being necessary to allow the delivery pipe to clear the second pump.

Both are incomparably better than the original.

Check the bottle isn’t full of black solidified screen wash jelly stuff. That can cause a supply problem.
That csi washer nozzle does look lovely though...
