We have ultrasonic deterrents in the garage portion of our workshop. They just plug into a standard socket. Fit and forget.
We have had mice in the store room but not in the portion with the ultrasonic deterrents. (we have traps in there as there isn't power) I'd recommend them but I'm not sure how large an area they're effective for. The garage portion of our workshop is probably a generous double garage size and there are 2 plugged in there 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

We have 3 plugged into our “barn” and we live in it but it’s certainly stopped the mice coming in to join us on winters evening, much nicer than traps. We have found them to very effective and would recommend them 2015 HT XS 90

I have an ultrasonic deterent device in my single garage that is integral to the house , it’s been plugged in for over 10 years and since plugging it in I’ve not had any mice come back (they stripped the sound insulation matting from the underside of a Volvo 480 bonnet and had a go at the wiring loom one winter). I also used to hear them in my loft at night but since fitting an ultrasonic thing in my hall (it’s a bungalow) I have never heard scurrying paws up in the roof space in the night. We had field and harvest mice as I live on the edge of open fields. I don’t mind them in the garden but not in the house and I often see them munching sunflower heads that have been cut off for wild bird feeding at this time of year. Thanks for your rapid responses. I'll purchase two for the barn and one for the adjacent feed room and then put my traps into storage in case of a prolonged power cut. Defender 90XS SW

most mice must be deaf around here as the only thing that work is peanut butter and traps or good raters and 22

I’ve had a few in the garage before and they did nothing ! Resorted to live traps with tootsie roll on with peanut butter on !
I’ve also used an old galvanised mop bucket with grain in the bottom which resulted in double figures, I’m dreading them getting into my wiring loom and chewing thro wires. DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |

We have had no luck with the ultrasonic. Traps and poison is the only thing that works for us.

Very topical for me at the moment. I discovered that the foam of a bellhousing cover had been trashed and turned into diced foam; they've also been at the dried "aerosol" foam which seals the gaps between the corrugated walls and the floor.
...and I'm with Dorset Smith I'm afraid, there have been two ultrasonic things plugged in for years, and they don't seem to have been a deterrent at all. Put out some more traps - 4 in total now in what is a reasonable double garage, and some poison block feeders I got in BnQ. Got two in the traps, and they've taken a bit of the poison, but there's still evidence of activity. Is there any way of testing whether the ultrasonic things are making any sound at all, given that we can't hear them? We tried ultrasonic devices, didn't work for us. Suprised you dont get instant kills with mice traps. Is that rats in mice traps not dying or mice not dying? Cheers

If you have access to a decibel reader you should be able to see a small gain in audible noise on the dial ?
As you say we can’t hear it but the noise is there !!!! I plugged them in my garage but left the traps ! I swear they took the noise as some kind of access code to a family party invite ! There are some ingenious mouse catching methods on you tube and on line, they should be hibernating by now and my traps havent seen action for a week or more ! DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |

The poison blocks from B&Q are also quite good if you can put them where they are finding a gap to get through - they are called something like Big Cheese mouse poison - a block of food they have to go passed in a plastic mounded holder that is refillable. Thing is they have to munch a fair bit of it before finding a corner to curl up and die in with those but they are effective and you don’t find dead mice lying around with them either. Poison. Works for me and I don't have to put any more down from Christmas until next autumn.
Are we certain that non-target creatures are unaffected by those noise machines? |

The ultrasonic deterrents certainly don't seem to bother my dogs, or the house Martins that nest in the eaves each year 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
