I've had good results with the ultrasonic ones repelling rats and mice, but a more challenging problem has been the glisglis that have moved into my mum's house. They don't seem too bothered by ultrasonics, will chew through practically anything, and appear to work cooperatively to get bait (and each other) out of traps.
To date ultrasonic devices, poison, and sealing all the holes I can find with expanding foam embedded with wire wool have discouraged them to an extent, but still they come back. If anyone here knows of an effective and legal (they're protected) way to make them go elsewhere I would love to hear it. |

Rats will chew through wire wool. Smash some glass into the foam / concrete and that'll stop them. Quite a lot of the farms down here in SW Wales have glass embedded in the concrete. Rats will chew through concrete easily (can't remember the exact figure for inches per hour but it's basically just used to keep their teeth down) but the glass they can't chew through. In all seriousness though, have you tried small amounts of food, periodically, on the perimeter of the property? Although it will encourage more vermin, it will encourage them outside rather than in? Failing that, you can get licensed pest controllers to deal with glisglis I believe 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Put food outside and they'll pop out to eat, then go back! The pest control professionals have also tried and failed, and now are always busy elsewhere! Demolition may be the answer after all. Unlike rats and mice which are attracted by food, glisglis are mainly looking for somewhere to live and hibernate, so removing food sources does discourage them.
Good tip about the glass, and I didn't realise that rats will chew through wire wool impregnated filler, that's useful to know. Horrible things to have in your house, and really difficult to evict. |

Glis Glis are protected under the wildlife act But can be controlled by a professional vermin exterminator.
You shouldn’t be seeing these little critters until about April time ? They tend to hibernate from early autumn right the way thro to Spring.... that’s when you need to be on your toes because when these wake up they’ll have a chew on anything ! 😳 DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |

My traps have remained largely empty for the last week or so. I had wondered if it coincided with some cold weather. Before that we were getting 5 plus a day.
I changed from these traps: to these, with better results: The 1st ones can be just a little too lightweight and not kill quickly enough. They also come in a nice box that makes checking a simple task. They seem to eat through pretty much everything except glass around here. I know they'll quite happily go through thinner sheets of steel that have been used to block off access to food. I don't think they like chewing through it but if they need to they will. Glass does appear to stop them though - makes demolishing walls interesting though.
