yeah, the 463 350 pro has the later dash (with the all electronic dials and chrome, and I think the 7 speed auto)
They fit the big elephant ear mirrors, add the marine ply to the back area and take out all the carpets. Not sure about the cost of that one though. Yes they still make the 461 for military (the Aus army have ordered a few hundred in the last year or 2), and they make the civvy 461 pro currently for the Aus market. Cost for a nearly new 461 pro in aus is about $100000 ~ $120000AUD (£56k~ £67k ish.... plus shipping over here of course, add another £4k or so, plus import tax) |

Apart from some of the more unusual variants I don't see the appeal of the new versions but I know there is a lot of love for them. My mate collects them but they leave me cold.

A 461 pro is on the horizon for me. Had a 460 SWB a few years back as well.

My understanding is that The G-professional is still based on phase 1 W463 underpinnings- beam axle front and rear.
The w463 phase 2 platform is independent front and beam rear. In terms of capability- having driven them back to back they are quite different machines. The 'new' 463 is similarly capable but I would say spends more time with a wheel in the air- I found on very undulating ground I was using the centre and rear locker more than I would have expected to in the earlier one due to this. Having said that- the traction control with the trick centre diff does do a great job of shuffling power about on most obstacles where extreme atricluatiin was not needed. On the road the new 463 is awesome. It's a great demonstration that air suspension isn't necessary...... Chris. |

As I mentioned above, there are two versions of the professional (actually there were three, if you take into account the 280CDI which was the same as the 300CDi but had 12/24v electrics for the civilian market)
The original 461 300CDi (which is basically the military spec greenliner, with shiny paint and different seats, and the civilian 300Cdi only has 12v electrics... the greenliner has 12 & 24v (although the wiring is in place on the civvy one to add the second alternator & battery) the later 463 professional (the 350CDi) is just a slightly de-blinged G350, has the shiny dashboard with electronic dials, and plastic bumpers (front ones with oil cooler built in |

Old story but made me smile today almost as much as watching the Aussies eat a big slice of humble pie.

Not having a go at you as subject matter is worth posting but that was one of the worst car related videos I have seen on YouTube. The guy came across as a rank amateur and I would hope if MB reviewed the footage they would think it was a mistake inviting him. The phenomenon is not a unique one though. I follow another channel ~ SXS log ~ who do great things but give crap reviews when on manufacturer demo days. |

My dad was trying to get me into buying one of the older ones, that would have been a nightmare for me! When I looked at getting parts for it. I would have gone back to metro again, at least I could have half of a chance of parts!
I do like my motors mind, but if they are a for parts, i just walk away from it. The same with metro sadly, Not sure how long i have with the 306. Some bits for that car now, are getting thin on the ground now. But thats due to the fact the last ones are very close to 20 years old! The oldest ones are well into their 20s now. and perhaps shows JLR to be disingenuous when they say that technically it doesn't make sense to put the Defender on the MLA platform and BEV it; despite initially saying it would.

Supacat, That is one seriously silly car. Only in the U, S of A.
Love the sound though. Few things sound better than an AMG V8. ANYWHERE ON EARTH But the Lambo SUV gave it a fare run for its money.... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |
