Agree, the towing capacity isn't spectacular. The link in your post though must be for the old models with the 2.8 diesel and 3.6 V6 petrol. Looks like Jeep haven't updated the UK website! From the brochure, the 4 door is now rated at 2495Kg. Still nowhere near the new Defender, but more than enough for my needs. |

Jeep UK website shows only 2.0ltr petrol and diesels - Rubicon appears to be auto only

I think the Gladiator variant tows more, and if this comes off then there's another version in the mix: The Gladiator XMT (Extreme Military-Grade Truck)

The Gladiator can tow 7650 lbs (about 3.5 tons by my reckoning) according to the US website.

Scroll down this Jeep website page - https://www.jeep.co.uk/wrangler-jl/interior
JLR would never show anyone hosing out the interior of the New Defender on the website... might spoil with Acorn leather https://www.jeep.co.uk/wrangler-jl/interior Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Think that you will wipe out all 85 ECU's doing this with a New Defender... |

Yes mine is a rubicon which is designed to be a capable 4x4 out of the box
It came with 32” bf muds Within a week I had it booked in at Jeepey for new bumper, 2” lift, new wheels , 35” tyres and side bars Also had all rear tinted windows double tinted so van like. Rear seats fold fla They are all auto and I chose the petrol which is 280 bhp Mind you the rubicon is prob same money as a defender. Also NOT vat qualifying which is rubbish. Seeing as a 110 utility is |

I would love to see a SW Gladiator with a diesel engine.
Will be a quite good replacement of the SW Defender 110 for overlanding. Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

I just watched some old camel trophy films with defender and disco. Although JLR claims to have build the toughest defender to date, I don't see a new defender (or any recent not product for that matter) survive those conditions for a single day. To me the camel trophy's are a good part of the legend (and dreams) of land rover. Now all that's left are the memories. I haven't been without (at least 1) LR product for over more than 30 years. But as I see it now, there might not be a new one. I' m going to hold my 110DCPU Puma forces long as I can, and hope to restore my 1984 90 (converted some 20 years ago to a 4.6V8) to it's former glorie.
I'm still reluctant to convert to keep. I really hope the One is Greandier will be a true replacement for the defender (as the new JLR defender - at least for me - is a total no go. My current defender is used for work (tools, cement, wood, ... in the back), green laning and travelling (hope to do more of the last in the future . |
