Old defender was never designed for that either and any unmodified production TD5 would have fried it’s electronics in that depth of mud/water. You notice too that none of the other hugely capable 4x4’s playing there were so stupid as to risk going there. New Defender has a standard wade depth of 900mm, that one has 500mm in standard trim, I’m sure that JLR have located the hugely expensive ECUs in the New Defender at 901mm or higher within the body (and might even have purchased a few Tupperware boxes to house them in!)
I know of an RRS that survived similar and the electronics didn’t suffer but the interior needed to be completely replaced when it was drowned in the underground car park park at Waterloo Station in London in flash flooding. The owner was very surprised that the car wasn’t written off by the insurers and was repaired. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

...well..Series3 was not designed either, to have piece of leather jacket as a head gasket, but it worked in the middle of nowhere and brought crew to their destination safe..so, since current incarnation is tagged as a toughest, im simply wondering how it will handle rough situation where you simply cant override what ECU think is wrong, even vehicle may be mechanically okay to keep going but its put down for good because of software..you know...Boeing 737 Max thing like..

What new car today can you buy that doesn't rely on an ECU?
I'm no fan of the new Defender, but you can't seriously have expected it to have electronics you could somehow bypass when flooded etc.?
If that's what you want/need you can stick with a Series, because even the Grenadier or Bollinger will rely on ECUs of some sort.

pressure differential, have the interior air pressure of the vehicle higher than the outside and that waterproofs it.

Got an invite to a closed (invite only) viewing at my nearest dealership from LR in my email last night. Event days are 19th and 20th November. Check your spam filters guys, if you live in Scotland or Northern England and you registered with JLR then you might also have an invite.
I was in the local dealership today to say unfortunately I won’t appear on their list from JLR as I’ll be in the USA working. Was there any news yet? The sale an mentioned no demo cars until Easter at the earliest, 90 will go on the configurator before Christmas, confirmed that only 110SE’s will be built first and no deliveries until “possibly” next May............ Then I asked about the 90 PHEV............ no news, maybe won’t be available as a 90! I know other LR vehicles aren’t much interest here but the Evoque and DiscoSport PHEV’s will be available next month - iCE side will be a 1.5ltr 3 cylinder just like I gave in my Countryman - so could that also be the BMW engine? Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

I believe the 1.5 engine in the Evoque and DS PHEV will be 3/4 of the ingenium 4 cylinder or half of the 3.0litre I6, depending on how you look at it.
It was always intended to be a modular engine, adding or deleting cylinders to change the capacity.
Alas, we're unlikely to see a 2.5 litre TD5 again.

Interesting video but can't help thinking a trip out to Moab, is just a jolly for the Engineers; and is completely meaningless when (picking up from another thread) the centre diff is swapped out for an inferior one down the line.

i read that the electronics on the new defender are all certified for ip67. meaning they can handle being submerged in 1 metre of water for 30mins iirc. so i wouldn't worry about water causing issues with the electronics.

Have you ever owned a Defender? I can't imagine that sentence coming out of any owner's mouth. Shocked

On the ECU side of things, I have worked on a fair few vehicles with low mounted ECUs that have been driven in depths exceeding their location and on the whole you get no problems, however by the time you remove and recouple the various ecus water ingress and corroded pins will be a nightmare. The failure is normally the pins and on a vehicle with this many cables and ECUs I can imagine diagnosis and repair will be tedious and expensive. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Commercials coming late 2020
Just arrived in my email - an email from JLR PR dept. with pictures of 90 and 110 Commercial in metallic blue with a white roof, blurb says it’s coming to retailers late in 2020....... must say it does look good as a commercial. Both available only as 2 or 3cseats with third seat being the centre jump seat. The 110 looks like it still has functioning rear side doors but it would make a fantastic Utility (maybe one for the specialist converters to do as an aftermarket option?)
Look here http://links.email.landrover.co.uk/servlet...1&rt=0
Or this is it too as a photo
