I received an email too,...Looks like this is still a goer,....seems a bit of a coincidence that He's released this stuff just after the "New" Defender's release?....maybe now, He thinks that He'll have the market to himself for a more basic, "no frills" type of vehicle,...more like the "old" Defender, I suppose.

I liked those !!! Even looked into the possibility of buying one in Portugal and driving it home to UK.

Maybe he lurks on this forum and has seen the negativity that the new version is generating and thought it was about time to stir things up a bit for JLR! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I remember seeing one owned by our electricity crowd. I remember that the prop shafts were a good sized diameter and that the doors were flimsy. The driver had nothing good to say about it. It was basic utility trim. That was the only one I ever saw. The electricity crowd dipped a toe in the water but did not buy them after that. Never heard of them getting a distributor for sales to the public. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

If I recall correctly, there was a small distribution network in the UK at one point in the mid 80's .Small independent garages.
We had one near Bradford. They were right hand drive as well.

I went to look at one with SWMBO but she deemed it to be too agricultural!!

In the end we got a 2.5 N/A 90 diesel county station wagon instead Very Happy

I really hope Ineos can make a go of it and produce something akin to the Defender and at a price that doesn't break the bank.

Looking forward to the Grenadier, but the one thing I don't get, is - if I informed me correctly - the choice for 3.0L engines (both petrol and diesel). With the intention to build a simple - and relatively "cheap" UV for the workmen, farmer, 4x4 enthousiast, etc..., high local taxes because of engine size might kill that initial objective I'm afraid... Confused

I hope to be wrong in the end.

May be there is a decision that has been made that a smaller capacity more tax efficient, but highly strung engine just wont cut it in a heavy duty working vehicle.

I think, based mainly on the recent videos with the test mule in them, that the car is going to be a physically larger vehicle with heavier duty axles and suspension than we might have been expecting. More akin to the bigger Land Cruisers and Patrols that we don't get here presenty than the defender, or the smaller pick ups currently on the market. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Bluest,...you mean you don't get Landcruisers in the UK?
I'm quite surprised by that, because in Aus the 200 Series Landcruiser is the vehicle by which all others are judged,...a very solid, powerful vehicle with its twin turbo 4.5L 200KW 650NM TT diesel,...absolutely ideal for towing caravans etc, it is an immensely popular vehicle.

We only get what you know as the Prado these days, although it’s just called Land Cruiser here. The full size Land Cruiser and Patrol were discontinued maybe a decade ago for us. The newest 200 series for sale here on Auto Trader is a 2008. I’m not sure we ever had the 70. I’m pretty familiar with the current Aus Land Cruiser line up from watching all you 4wd YouTube channels. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I had some network grid chaps turn up to mine recently, one in a 110 and the other in a transit type van. The 110 driver was the apprentice and made to take the 110 because everyone else in the team hated it. Go figure?

I had a similar discussion with the driver of a Defender who worked for our electricity crowd. I asked him about the Defender and he said he would not buy one as a everyday transport but if he had a farm and needed a working vehicle he would buy one provided he had another normal car to step into after work. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

^^^ And there’s the wonder of the Defender, horses (or Defenders) for courses. Some love it for what it can do, some for what it ‘is’, some for both and some not at all. And some for that intangible ‘character’. There’s no other car out there that can be that, and that IMHO is what makes it so great. So unique. And the new Defrauder will never, ever offer the same. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Our 4x4 fleet at work consists of mainly Discos and Shoguns and a few others over the years. Every now and then we would get someone suggesting we should use Defenders (usually someone who has never been in one). That would get knocked on the head immediately! If we did that, half of the place would be off sick with back problems and the other half would be filling in “near miss” forms for getting strung up by their belt loops on the door catch. Not everyone is a LR enthusiast, and quite rightly those that aren’t would be pretty hacked off at the prospect of spending 8 hours a shift bolt upright, going deaf, when their work mate is being cosseted in a D5. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Funnily enough our electricity crowd had some work done under contract. There were a lot of overseas workers involved and I remember chatting to them about the Defender they were supplied with. They were happy to sign it's praises. I can't wait to get out of my work vehicle and back into my Defender. We never had a car just the Defender. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
