White with steels doesn’t half look good to my eyes. Ditch the lost luggage box thing. Set of plastic arches and maybe a contrast roof... 1951 80" S1 2.0

Well, I’ve spent today looking over them.

I absolutely love the new Defender. I know it divides opinion but for me, it would look great on my driveway next to my Wolf and D3 or RRS.

Interesting. Especially as you seem to be one of the few on here who has actually seen it.

If judging purely on looks, in what order would you place your 3 and the new one?

That's a great comparison, thank you. For those saying the new one has no resemblance/DNA from the original...sorry I don't agree Wink

That is entirely subjective though. I dont think anyone said it has no resemblance or DNA (whatever that even means regarding a car) but I don't think it has much, and certainly doesn't have enough. This should have been the model for 5 years from now. The one for now should have been closer to the old to lessen the shock of the change and maybe get enthusiasts on board with it. Aside from the nose and the rear lighting it actually looks quite nice, especially the 90, but I don't feel it strongly resembles a Defender.

I wonder how long before some clever aftermarket firm offer a retro style front end and rear lighting conversion for it. Thumbs Up 2011 110 USW

That tiny dent got a ‘meh’ from the instructor but I insisted that I got out and checked - it was a right good thump. I hate to think what it would have done to a plastic ‘bumper’...

And that, I think, is just an indicator of the difference between a Classic Defender (is that what we’ll call them now?) and more plastic modern offerings.

Don't forget that market forces, EU and Worldwide safetly legislation have forced pedestrian friendly vehicle surfaces. So everyone can lament the 'good old days' but its time to move on. Sure anyone that been hit by a car will probably agree.

I had aftermarket steel bumpers on my SIIA and D1 so dont get me wrong but as im 90% on road there is no excuse not to have plastic 'soft' bumpers IMHO

For me the biggest issue aesthetically is the front, which most definitely sings more Disco than Defender. That’s also a bit strange as with quite small tweaks the look would have been so much more spot on. Additionally, the fake jewellery is bothersome. As someone said, that kind of stuff is not what Defenders are about. Their appeal has always been honesty.

A lot could be forgiven if the car’s soul was right: a sturdy, simple, fixable platform that can go anywhere and do anything required of it. A platform where every dent tells a story (rather than of depreciation). That’s why I always wanted a Defender. This new car does not scratch that itch.

^^^ Not bad. The video version is far better than the New McGovern Design, but still not quite right. Maybe bacuse it reminds me too much of the RR Cullinan. What his design (and that of the Cullinan) does go to prove, is that slab fronted vehicles can still meet all necessary pedestrian safety tests as set by the EU and US. So, the idea that they couldn’t have kept the most iconic part of the Defender, it’s nose/face, is balls.... Whistle
