I understand why they have done it, but I still think it looks wrong.
Maybe I'm just dreaming/fantasising it might have some tiny crumb of the real deal incorporated into it... 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

I too, have suggested this ^. Their covert "Defender" testing has been a little too "un-covert" to make sense. Time will tell..... |

It is all generating pre launch publicity for nothing so it won’t stop anytime soon! They have revealed enough to get people to part with cash for deposits without a known spec- a good trick if you can do it.
The pics still look to me like a mini Disco 4, which would be cool. |

Yep all part of the marketing plan. #Best4x4 on the side, a few laps of the Nurburgring all to generate interest. And why not, it's an extremely cheap way of creating awareness. Folks lap it up, especially in the media and on sites like this.

That square looking test vehicle with it’s stickering has nothing to do with the real new Defender, let alone the D6. It is a ploy to mislead all of us, and testing of the real new Defender is done in places nobody would imagine.
For designing and cobbling together this fake news Defender we now frequently see pictures and movies of, JLR have employed Jeremy Clarkson for the design, and the Hamster to cobble it together. Looks much like their below masterpiece. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Might be reading too much into this, but it does suggest that the Defender will not be a BEV: Click image to enlarge |

Certainly the 2020 model isn't mooted for it. Given the replacement cycle and launch date, the next Defender on the BEV compatible platform is off the chart for "future", while next gen Disco is notionally only 4 years away.

So BEV Defender is back on the table...what is going on at JLR, they seem to have made and unmade this decision more than a few times?
"Meanwhile, the planned range-topping Defender Sport is in the early stages of its development, according to insiders. It’s expected to be the first pure-electric Defender family spin-off and is based on the new MLA architecture. It will be a much more luxurious interpretation of the new model, with the kind of fixtures and fittings to rival the new Aston Martin DBX and the entry-level versions of the Bentley Bentayga, as well as being pure electric. The aim is not only to help further reduce Land Rover’s fleet CO2 in time for even tougher 2025 regulations but also to produce a much more authentic and distinctive eco-friendly vehicle for the most upmarket car buyers. One bonus is that it’s thought, thanks to the ultra-fine controllability of electric motors, the Defender Sport will still be as exceptionally capable off road as Land Rover’s current crop of models. However, it’ll be significantly more road-focused than the standard Defender." https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-car...o-defender |
