Only in HCPU for full size and Lightweight for half size in current offering. So not much capability already. This new model is definitely telling farmers they can do one as far as carrying stuff or livestock inside it is concerned. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

The D4 replacement aka New Defender will be amazing, journalist will love it, celebs will make love to it and the majority of the old user base will order another brands pickup as they retire their old work horse to the barn for a well earned rest, (insert Hovis theme here)

As many have/are pointing out, the new one does not replace the old......

FYI: I saw a very nice custom leather luggage set in the new accessory brochure which could hold a euro pallet if you cut it down a bit. Thumbs Up Paul

Blackwolf, in AU we can option even an evoque or epace with a proper 50mm tow hitch, new defender will be no different, the tow hitch you see folds away.

Jav uk, factually it does replace it and fixes just a bout every grievance people had with the last one, its basically a new and greatly improved defender with decades of refinement in 1 hit. Not everyone will love it, imo most will.

Blackrangie, you are clearly looking forward to it and already have a high opinion (although you are working so hard to convince us that I almost wonder if you're trying to convince yourself)! I am happy for you.

I have no doubt that it will be an impressive vehicle, one day I might even buy one, but there is absolutely no way that it is a Defender replacement, and it was never going to be. In fact, it cannot be, because the economics of such simply don't stack up.

So it will end up being the spiritual successor to the Discovery, it will change and get "face lifted" every few years, and will become just another, probably very good, SUV. The accessory catalogue will predominantly be filled with useful "lifestyle" accessories such as luggage, and the marketing will be aimed at the suburban middle-class frustrated fantasy explorer. I wonder if it will depreciate as fast as a Range Rover, I imagine that it probably will.

I you can afford it, it will be totally capable of amazing Camel Trophy-like feats of exploration, but I do wonder if reliability will be an issue.

You won't easily be able to convert from hardtop to softop, it won't take demountable bodies, you won't be able to fit a cherry-picker, I dount that you'll be able to fit a snow plough, it is unlikely to have provision for front, centre, or rear power take off, and i seriously doubt that you'll be able to throw bleeding deadstock in the back by day then hose out the interior and go to a restaurant in it in the evening. It is simply not a Defender.

In fact, the moment that I learned it wouldn't have a chassis, I knew that it wasn't a vehicle that would be any use to me.

First big reason is most fleet managers simply dont buy anything without 5 star safety for obvious reasons.
Then you have, more comfortable, capable, able to tow better, able to carry loads with more stability and safety.
Especially as you are leasing, it will be more reliable and cost effective with warranty and roadside.
I could go on and on.
Red cross look to be signing up, thier team cover something like 3million miles a year on and offeoad.
No doubt all the police forces and council highway fleets will start switching to the new defender too as its said to be tougher and more durable.
