Brightened up the front to try and see what's in the shadows.
Looks to be a huge fan in the middle.
Can't see any big coolers hanging right down like in the D5, if that is them in the shadows they are high up.
Frame has two big bolt-on sections (possibility for recovery points or factory or aftermarket Bullbars/bumpers.

Weights are also much clearer.

First big reason is most fleet managers simply dont buy anything without 5 star safety for obvious reasons.
Then you have, more comfortable, capable, able to tow better, able to carry loads with more stability and safety.
Especially as you are leasing, it will be more reliable and cost effective with warranty and roadside.
I could go on and on.
Red cross look to be signing up, thier team cover something like 3million miles a year on and offeoad.
No doubt all the police forces and council highway fleets will start switching to the new defender too as its said to be tougher and more durable.

I'm intrigued as to how the new model will "tow better". The proper Defender could already tow upto the legally permitted maximum, as could most JLR products, so the new Discovery 5...I mean Defender won't be able to exceed those weights. I guess if is more powerful it might be a bit easier, more comfortable perhaps, but weight for weight it will be no improvement.

By the way so far as I can establish the power industry will not be buying the new model. They can't be adapted to their specs and are too expensive. Seems JLR did give them a heads up some time ago but the D-Max and Hilux will be the new industry standard. Very sad. 2011 110 USW

For towing, Airbag suspension, more powerful, lighter, safer, brakes better..car stays level loaded, car drops when you need to put on your trailer.

I suspect that with modern computerised suspension, traction control, stability control, braking control, and possibly computer augmented steering, the new one may be the best sub-7.5 tonne GTW tow vehicle yet produced. I expect great things.

Strewth, I have said something positive about the new Pretender! Phone a psychotherapist, I'd better get some counselling! Laughing

Judging by the disco's weight it will be sub 2.5toone and most likely closer to 2.3-2.4 toone.

Hopefully it will have a ULW under 2 tons (imperial) and hence be a Dual Purpose Vehicle in order to avoid restrictive speed limits for commercial variants.

Also in the UK lighter means less emissions - less tax BUT as soon as you start to add optional extras and useful toys then weight increases, emission go up - next tax bracket higher! Look at the fiasco last year when the tax/ emissions rules changed - every single JLR variant had to be measured again before delivery so as you add a combo of options the less likely your car will arrive on time unless there is someone else out there who has ticked exactly the same options boxes as you want! My Countryman got caught with that in June 2018 and went from 0 Tax to £140pa after I added a lot of options......... then there was a price rise before delivery that took the value over £40k Big Cry BUT BMW did the honourable thing and paid first 5 years tax for me as compensation for delays in delivery! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I was going to ask as to what we will all talk about when this finally lands in the showroom. Then I realised that in two years time we will all be talking about the updated facelifted version... Whistle 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Some optimism there in thinking there will even *be* commercial versions. Laughing 2011 110 USW
