While waiting for the breakdown truck to arrive I thought I'd see if any gurus on this forum could provide some practical suggestions.
2002 TD5 110 Station Wagon, recently serviced, started ok drove for about 150m the cut out. It won't restart and, after I left it for a while, when turning the ignition key the glow plug light does not illuminate. My first thought was something in the fuel system but could it be electrical? All thoughts gratefully received. |

Can you hear the fuel pump running in off side wheel arch?
You won’t get glow plug light as too warm. |

Hi Landy Andy,
Thanks for the suggestion. I can't hear the pump, no. Even after pressing the accelerator pedal a few time to prime the system. I didn't think of that so thanks again. |

Does the engine management light come on?
I had a similar problem and had to keep reseating the Main and Fuel pump relays as they had a bad contact. Just for good measure I also reseated both plugs in the ECU just so everything had a chance. Good luck. |

Thanks folks. It is now on its way to Namur where they will not look at it till Monday (public holiday in Belgium). All of the fuses and relays seemed ok when the chap tested it with a multimeter. No engine management lights.
Thank heavens for European breakdown cover |

My last breakdown like that. They winched it on the the recovery truck then let it roll backwards off the recovery truck whilst jump starting the engine. It started ! I drove it to the local mechanic who replaced the starter motor. It had done 90k.

Thanks for all of the kind responses and suggestions. We've now got a hire car and are on our way home with the Landy still in Namur. We need to get the ferry to Newcastle tomorrow so no chance of getting my truck back in time
The plan is for my insurance to repatriate it but I'm not holding my breath. I had to organise my hire car myself after they told me there was nothing available. There was an Avis depot in the next town who were more than happy to rent me a car. |

Thanks 90 Dreamer. There should be a hire car waiting for us at the ferry port so that we can at least get back to Scotland.
