JWS dual-burn heated headlights are now up on the Nakatenenga site at an eye watering €1,060 or £960...

As fancy as they are, I'll be sticking to my Crystals then...

Agreed there 100%, we are driving a Land Rover - upgrading to Wipacs and Nightbreakers is more than ample - spending £hundreds on LED’ s is totally pointless, gain virtually nothing and look awful like a cheap biscuit tin out of a Darth Vader movie.

I went down the HID route, quite happy with them as they match my LED side lights pretty well and give a good output.
I got mine from HIDS4U over on the D3 forum Oh woe, oh woe

Do not be tempted to fit a HID conversion kit into a headlight designed for halogen filament bulb as it is illegal. Taken from the Hids4u website

So they are admitting that their kits are illegal why else taken them out for a MOT?

Fit a different light source in a headlamp and approval mark is void

Also a MOT major defect

The ONLY legal way to change the type of light source in a headlamp is to replace the whole unit for one which has the correct genuine approval markings on.

In terms of cost effectiveness they’re way down there with lights that are cheap and rubbish. I think some folk are laughing their way to the bank.

A grand? Really? Let’s put that in the tank and go some place we’ve never been. Even if it’s at circa 20 mpg.

Have always used PIAA bulbs in other vehicles and in approx 15+yrs have only ever had 1 bulb fail.......

Truck-Lite do a 7" heated LED headlight but it is not approved for road use in Europe (not UNECE approved) It is approved for road use in America as it is DOT compliant

J W Speaker do have a heated 7" LED headlight which is both DOT approved for use in America and has UNECE approval for use in Europe. Available in RHD UK specification for about a £1,000 and LHD European specification. Not sure on price in Europe. Have a look here

Yep. I have those JW Speaker LEDs with the heat function (“SmartHeat® Headlights - JW Speaker Dual Burn (DRL)”.

How can I say this - they are awfully bright - but are installed not to dazzle. The engineers who fitted them made sure they were setup correctly. Great at night and the DRLs look quite fetching in the day.😊

Over the years I have tried many a different types just to get the most light on the road as street lights are a uncommon sight out here in the sticks. From the days of using relays and Ring Rally sport 130 watt bulbs, to being legal and using the crystals and the GE megalight bulbs, I relented and went Trucklite after a headlight relay burned out.

Even though some might argue that the trucklite isn't the brightest HL The overall experience is far beyound what the older fillament bulbs could produce, Nice colour light with good spread, not to mention a sealed unit that won't let water in when wading. I have written off a few bulbs with sub aqua endevours.

A family member ran crytals and a retro fit HID kit and all it gives a Dazzaling puddle of light with no aim or discernable beam pattern. yes it was bright but in the rear view or heading towards him it was dangerous and unsafe.

LED are a expensive upgrade granted but I feel the benefits work well. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

That's not surprising . Retro fit HID kits are illegal for exactly that reason. Darren

stooopid question time but looking at the front it appears you have to remove the lamp assembly to change the bulbs???

is that right or am i missing something??

So I have been on a route of Wipac Crystal with +130% Osram nightbreaker.

Now have Trucklite LED with the uprated Land Reizger loom.

In honesty, i think the nightbreakers with Wipac Crystal plus loom upgrade are as good as anything.

My LED's seem to be better in some ciscumstances, but less good in others. Terrible in falling snow for instance, the LED causes a lot of reflected glare.

In hindsight nightbreakers with Wipac Crystal plus loom upgrade are as good as anything.

One benefit of the LED's I have is they don;t need masking for overseas use, the cut-off is flat. Plus they have bright sidelights - almost of DRL quality Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)
