It was standard, no other mods other than a Land Rover winch package and Land Rover RAI. My point is Land Rovers are brilliant offroad be it a D3 or a Defender, this "my land rovers better than yours" is

4x4s have so many uses
some will buy a D4 and it will never get out of chelsea, some will buy a D4 and take it around europe! LR has invested heavily in technology but for my money a D4 wins.....unless it's out of warranty ![]() ![]() |

I have competed in Morocco several times, on 2 occasions I used D3's. The only thing that let the car down was 'me' not understanding the technology, however once you get a feel for whats going on you can use the gadgets to your advantage and kick ass. I competed in the 2008 Santa's Challenge in a standard D3, out of 36 vehicles we came 24th and we were competing against purpose built challenge trucks. Oh and we didn't actually compete to win we did it for Rays of Sunshine and raised 8k for them. The Complex Gubbins are a dream ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge 130's have feeling's as well you know ![]() |

![]() Major kudos Andrew! You do stuff in your Landys that people in £500 Fourtracks won't even attempt! I'm jealous ![]() ![]() I still think people worry more about electrics than they should. The only thing that would stop me from taking a D4 on a round the world expedition would be the expense, plus I guess it would be easier to bolt bits onto a Defender... But there's just as much chance of a Defender breaking down as a Disco I guess. And to sort of prove a point, the father in law bought a so called 'unreliable' Disco 3 new in 2008, traded it in back in March for a D4 with 150k hard miles on the clock and it still drove like new, and it didn't put a foot wrong. The D4 has got 15k on it already, and that again hasn't put a foot wrong. Same with Defenders, theres good ones, theres bad ones. But you hear more about the bad than good. |

I currenlty run a D4 but have swapped between Defender and Disco a few times. One thing I can confirm is that when I own a D4 I want a Defender and when I own a Defender I want a D4......
Both utterly capable machines. I have had no major drama's with either. Ian ![]() |
