Pretty heavily modded.

That's on a par with comparing a bazzed up Subaru with a 911 Turbo. Yes it may accelerate as fast (or even faster) but do you want to drive a chaviot wiv a PHAT zorst or do you want to drive a stunningly capable Porsche?

Chuck similar money at a Defender and see what that will do...

And we're on about standard kit here anyway. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

It was standard, no other mods other than a Land Rover winch package and Land Rover RAI. My point is Land Rovers are brilliant offroad be it a D3 or a Defender, this "my land rovers better than yours" is Censored , they are all good at different things, a base level D3 and a Base level Defender are both bloody good offroad, like it or not. To say a D3 is not a proper 4x4 is just daft, of course it is, it's a Land Rover. Very Happy Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

4x4s have so many uses

some will buy a D4 and it will never get out of chelsea, some will buy a D4 and take it around europe! LR has invested heavily in technology but for my money a D4 wins.....unless it's out of warranty Rolling with laughter then i'll take my old 200 tdi Disco 1 Thumbs Up

As good as it all is that's what would hold me off from buying a Dicscovery or RR, all the complex gubbins Shocked I really like both models though, they are very impressive to look at, love the styling, nothing else touches LR's modern designs I don't think Thumbs Up It's an impressive family line up compared to Nissan, Toyata, Jeep etc

A Disco can climb Mt Everest towing an artic lorry for all I care - it's still a mum run special laden with too much tech, makes an Italian car look reliable and weighs more than the Moon. And looks like a Tonka toy.

Added to that, it's as cool as the centre of the Sun and every other road user hates them.

You my friend have just won ":censored:of the year award" Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Done much in your Defender other than polish it?...Andrew, Ken, No dosh and 1 plus a few others all have had D3s and Defenders and they are both great...its a fag paper width to decide whats best, points re electronics are valid if your driving round the world..im guessing know one apart from leeds has been on what i call a real journey.
Horses for courses...D3 more comfy, Defender, more boltons, a Censored behind the wheel will render both useless..especially one that has done sod all with his Thumbs Up

Best get back on the BMW forum

I have competed in Morocco several times, on 2 occasions I used D3's. The only thing that let the car down was 'me' not understanding the technology, however once you get a feel for whats going on you can use the gadgets to your advantage and kick ass.

I competed in the 2008 Santa's Challenge in a standard D3, out of 36 vehicles we came 24th and we were competing against purpose built challenge trucks. Oh and we didn't actually compete to win we did it for Rays of Sunshine and raised 8k for them.

The Complex Gubbins are a dream Thumbs Up

Major kudos Andrew! You do stuff in your Landys that people in £500 Fourtracks won't even attempt!

I'm jealous Sad Embarassed

I still think people worry more about electrics than they should. The only thing that would stop me from taking a D4 on a round the world expedition would be the expense, plus I guess it would be easier to bolt bits onto a Defender... But there's just as much chance of a Defender breaking down as a Disco I guess.

And to sort of prove a point, the father in law bought a so called 'unreliable' Disco 3 new in 2008, traded it in back in March for a D4 with 150k hard miles on the clock and it still drove like new, and it didn't put a foot wrong. The D4 has got 15k on it already, and that again hasn't put a foot wrong.

Same with Defenders, theres good ones, theres bad ones. But you hear more about the bad than good.

I currenlty run a D4 but have swapped between Defender and Disco a few times. One thing I can confirm is that when I own a D4 I want a Defender and when I own a Defender I want a D4......

Both utterly capable machines. I have had no major drama's with either.

Ian Thumbs Up

Sadly your location says it all Mr Hardcore offroader... Laughing I know all about Surrey "offroaders." I also know all about offensive little men who insult people on-line. Not doing Discovery owners' image much good are you?

Thanks for the assumptions and insults. You have no idea do you? Carry on suburban road warrior... Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.
