2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Java Black
Engine and Radio Issues
Gents,

Over the last week I've had a couple of issues which may or may not be related. When I'm sat at the traffic lights out of gear the engine starts idling roughly like it wants to stall. This lasts for six to ten seconds and all is well again. Also, the last couple of days I've noticed shortly after starting the revs surge between gear changes. Thirdly I've noticed that AM radio reception has terrible interference that rises and falls with engine revs (- normal headlights, no led's)

In four years of ownership I've never had any of these issues.

Any ideas as to what it may be?

Many thanks

Mark

Rough idle can be down to fuel starvation whether from a failing VCV or blocked fuel filter to biological contamination of the fuel lines.

My situation is somewhat related to this as when I rev the engine during normal drive, I get a whining sound, almost like the turbo coming from the radio when listening to music. The sound cannot be heard when the radio is off. Have LEDs but it also happens when the lights are off. My antenna snapped off though, could that have contributed? I'm planning to replace it with a Hirschmann Radio antenna from Nakatanenga with the ground. Will this solve my woes?

I never experienced this issue before.

I suspect a dodgy earth may be causing these issues.

Can anyone pinpoint all the earthing points on a 2007 puma 2.4tdci 110 SW that I should check?

Many thanks

Mark

I know of one up front under the front wheel arch on the outrigger, can't remember if it was OS or NS. Fairly easy to find.

Another on the transfer box underneath, intended for the rear loom.

Be careful with the bolts especially the one on the outrigger as IIRC they can shear so just a warning.
Best thing you can do is clean, tighten. (To a tight but not FT!) then corrosion protect once fitted back.

Anyone know of any other earth points? I'd be interested to know also if anyone does know.

Im in agreement with lorryman, my 07 idled roughly changed the VCV did the learn and was fine afterwards.

Couldnt see what was wrong with the old one. "Rafiki" 2007 110 STW - Rolling rebuild.

I've been looking for this information for quite a while now myself. I'm presuming that this still applies for 2011 Pumas?

Also, thanks, custom90steve! The article you linked seems to describe what I'm experiencing to a "T". Will check these out and let you know if it solves anything. Funny that this was never an issue until I lost the antenna.

trying to get my head round Land Rovers connections their drawing refer to joints and ctaps but don't reference there location C00550 is mentioned and shown on drawings with the connection pins but no mention in their connection schedule.I know that C00550 is centre of the engine compartment rear and assume the connector is as the freelander a natural coloured multi plug that excepts tab earth wiresa image of the c0550 would help ,have attached header C0289 located behind the right of the dash which could be a source to trace the earth path
