Help wiring mudstuff winch switch
I am trying to wire one of these
https://www.mudstuff.co.uk/genuine-style-t...winch.html

1. Ingintion +
2. Dash illumination +
3. Empty
4. To relay
5. -

When I turn on the dash illumination nothing happens.
When I turn on the switch the dash illumination comes on. The switch is operating the relay as expected.
The orange light remains off at all times.

So you don’t have a neg to the switch/light?

It needs one.

I have wired exactly like Devon-rover I believe.
Negative is on 5 and 3 is empty.
If 1-5 was the other way around, could that explain it?
I have plugged it in according to the numbers printed on the mobile connector plug

I don’t think it would work if 1 and 5 were wrong.

Edit.

Well I suppose it would, but power would go through led. Mmmm

This is the whole thing. I was following the second diagram.
I tried to bridge 5& 3 and the dash illumination works but as soon as I turned the switch on I blew the dash illumination fuse.

So wrongly wired then. You have picked the lower wiring diagram. Is that correct for your switch?

If you look at the pic it shows where the location lugs are on the switch. This should tell you which way up the switch should be

But as you said potentially 1 and 5 round the wrong way.

Isn’t your switch (the one you have apart) the higher pic one on the paper?

Where 3 and 4 are joined

No matter which switch 3 should be negative.
I tried setting 3 to negative and disconnect the relay. This configuration should turn on the lights but instead I let out the magic smoke. I think there must have been something wrong with the switch.

Right now I have time I'll explain some more.

I originally brought the Bearmach switch and facia all in one, as you have experienced the supplied diagram is a steaming pile of "£%£" and doesn't bear much relevance.
I too had issues with the blown fuse or the marker LED not working, and finally Burnt the switch trying it what seemed to be the right way so your not alone in releasing the magic smoke.

To this day after a few E-mails Bearmach haven't replied to me so I'm just waiting to meet them at a show and return their cheap pile of poo.

I brought a genuine HRW switch (the cheapest Gen switch) and the right connector off Ebay and wired as per the diagram and it all works cushty like. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

The Bearmach switches (also sold through MudStuff), are Chinese copies of YUG000540LNF, with Bearmach's custom engraved switch fronts.

I don't mind that they've pinched my wiring diagrams, but it would help if they only supplied the correct one for the switch.

The top diagram on their page is correct for the supplied switch -

Pin 1 - From the earth side of the Relay (Pin 85)

Pin 2 - To Dash Illumination Header (or an adjacent switch)

Pin 3 - Not Used (but connected internally to Pin 4)

Pin 4 - To Dash Earth Header (or an adjacent switch)

Pin 5 - Live from Accessory side of Relay (Pin 87), for 'tell-tale' orange LED

The bottom diagram on their page is for a Defender TD5/Discovery-2 heated seat switch, Defender Puma heated seat switch, Defender HRW switch, or Discovery-2 cruise control switch.

These switches use different coloured connectors, but are all wired the same -

Pin 1 - Live in from fused supply

Pin 2 - Dash illumination

Pin 3 - Not used (but is internally connected to Pin 5 - Earth)

Pin 4 - Switched live out to accessory (relay)

Pin 5 - Earth Paul.

Thank you both, Devon-Rover & PaulMc. I don’t feel too bad now having screwed up a seemingly trivial task.
I will have to get back to where I bought the switch and see if I can get a replacement. Hopefully a genuine business end this time.
