110 Defender REbuild
Afternoon wise and clever people,

I have been offered a 1980's 110 Landy with a rotten chassis.

Its down here by me on the coast so is probably full of alt corrosion and rust.

Apparently its a runner but of course no chance of an MoT.

How much work involved in a chassis change?

Would it be worth it?

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't want any of the old straight diesel or the turbo diesel 110's they made in the 80's simply cos the engines are shiite. 200tdi or later and I would consider it. loads of people would probably disagree but hey ho.

Changing a rotten chassis is usually more than just a rotten chassis, it's also rotten bodywork and brackets and on and on.
With this in mind, by the time you've spent on a new galvanised chassis, to my mind it would be silly to not re-new everything else that's worn and corroded at the same time, but then you get into some serious dollar.

it's not just changing the chassis, it never is

Not trying to put you off, it's just good to be abreast of the fact before you open pandora's box !

Like me i set my goal to rebuild my 90 at 6k ish.... that lasted 2 minutes when i went full hog into the rebuild.

Having done it though despite it being a serious commitment over 3 years of weekends, the satisfaction at the end is priceless !

I think depending on what 110 it is and if it's a good price ( little as possible ) i would buy it and store it if i had the place to and then have a bit of time to make a decision on what to do with it Wink 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
