Anyone happen to know what vehicles LR borrowed the large elephant ear type wingmirrors off of?

Large standard Land Rover type Jamie ?
If the are, then they may have Australian spec. I have a pair at home, I can get you the numbers tomorrow.

These type I'm after:

Very similar to the ones used on the G461 professional (although with a different lower mounting bracket... these suit the G as they match the already mounted mirrors, but would work on a defender OK I think)...

Would that be Wolf mirrors? Large together with longer arms are ideal for towing the tin tent. Just push in for daily use. Beware: the only arms that don't wobble are genuine LR ones, even Bearmach have problems. Can supply number if you want. Peter

I think the pulse ambulance ones are a bit too wide (very, actually)

Think I'll aim for the G type ones... I know some suppliers of those as well.

thanks all

I remember reading an article about these many, many years ago, and they were off some larger vehicle in the LDV range (as Ibexman has already said). Alas I cannot remember which. The mirror arms were off something Ford Cargo sized, but again I think it was LDV. Sadly I cannot now remember where I read this.

I have been told that those mirrors are actually a complete 'mare to live with since they obscure so much of the forward/sideways view.

Yes blackwolf, the original camel ones are pretty big looking (Its been years since I saw one in the flesh)

Was at a friends place a couple of weeks ago and he has the >pur< mirrors on his G wagens, and they look very neat. Bit smaller than the DAF truck ones, and as you mention, they don't seem to hinder side vision too badly.

Right OK, well for anyone looking for a genuine larger standard mirror rather than the aftermarket alternatives, Land Rover did these for the Australian market, part number MUC 3707.
Hope that helps somebody

Thanks Mo.

It was more the truck type mirror I was after. Just fancied something "different"

Another job to add to the list....
