I bought a ruck of electric window switches at Malvern Auto jumble including mint Disco 1 switch housing and finisher, but realised it is too big to fit on Auto console.
I then sat in the back to see where the switches could go if I put them on the door trim rather than the back of cubby box. I immediately found that there wasn't enough room and actually having the switches on the cubby was much easier to reach than I thought. So I will be fitting the kits loom and switch pod as in pics.
TBC
Thumbs Up

Looks like quite a good kit with everything included.

Switches look ok, I think Defender ones have 6 pins so could swap?

I like the location in a pod behind the rear cubby box, that way they rear passengers can reach them and I can also,

Does it come with this pod? Keep me updated on how plug and play it is... Thanks.

There are some problems using LR switches. Firstly they are hard to mount, since they stand a long way proud of the surface they clip to (the mountings in the dash are recessed quite a lot). Secondly it seems that the only way to get connectors to fit the switches is to cut them off a scrapper - the connector housings don't seem to be available anywhere (the contact inserts are available, but they are fantastically difficult to extract from the shell, even with pro tools, so it is easier to use the tails from the donor vehicle harness).

Can the front motors be adapted to fit the rear doors?
Thanks

It would be exceptionally difficult since the front and rear lift mechanisms are so dissimilar.

hi

link to video of a universal winding part as used during this thread.
How are you guys keeping up with it? i think i will give it a try at 40ish gbp.
I am not a very rich guy :\

plenty of related videos but this seems to be great for helping with installation.
Issue is where to put switches as i dont want to mess with door cards.

Smile

hi. just installed mine after a lot of delays and rust cutting and proofing second row doors. Motors are quite strong and on the way up they are fast and once closed they can buckle slightly the support where the winding mechanism is bolted. i do not think the motor can be adjusted (maybe adding a resistor in the system). i just close and quickly press open till it releases the pressure.

installed switches on the middle front seat. reachable and easy to use without butchering the front dash. power is through a fuse via an auxiliary fuse box (power is on via ignition key). I still would like to install a push switch in dash to be able to cut off the power to the system while on drive (just in case there are kids in the back)

As some of the links are now dead, I assume i’m Looking at the kit from Defenderupgrades now that comes with a box and switches added.

I’d ideally like the switches in the door cards though like Andy did on the LS3 with an option for the front somewhere too.
Does anyone have any info of the mod needed to add the switches (calling or other) to the door cards?

Malteserover
I’m assuming your middle front seat is my cubby box. Ideally i’d Keep this clean, but may have to go the basic option if the cards and front are too much of a pain.

Also the £40 kids from fleabar seem to have vanished and are now up near 200 notes.

Andy! And chance tou’re Doing the mod to your new project?
If so i’d Like to jump on your band wagon and do the same if tou’re Fabricating bits.

I used the kit that is now sold by Foundry 4x4, Defender Upgrades, etc., although I bought it direct from the manufacturer. It is an excellent kit which fits with no drilling or structural mods to the door.

Hi Gents

we will be having the pods to fit the defender electric window switches in the doors or in front and rears for our electric window kits.

Let us know if and when you have that kit available. 👍
Control switch on door card option like any car produced in the last 20 years. 🙄
