I'm fed up of returning to the sw and finding the kids have knocked the window winder while getting out and left the window open, so I was wondering if anyone had ever thought about fitting the electric window regulator from a disco 1 or 2 in the second row doors? I was thinking the whole switch and wiring loom could be used so the rear windows could also be switched off. With the windows and doors being very similar to defenders I though it might be an easy job.

I've seen similar kits but I don't like how the spindle for the winder handle still sticks out, so I thought the disco mechanism might be a neater solution plus I thought the whole wiring and switch setup would look much more factory. Ray

Often wondered if anyone had found a solution for this, as I have the same problem.

The kits above are pretty generic kits that can be bought on eBay for about £50 so a decent saving if that's the route you want to go. As no one seems to have tried the disco route I might have to try and buy the bits from somewhere and see if I can get them to fit. Ray

Choose carefully as all Disco 1 vehicles I've come across have issues with electric rear windows...........especialy those with manual windows !!
D4x4 kit is same as Exmoor were selling Hofele. Generic ones will always be cheaper for obvious reasons. |

I had a disco 1 50th and the leccy Windows worked perfect and the ability to switch the rears off was great with the kids in the back

It may not be the kids, since my rear windows used to open themselves until I put a loop of bungee cord round the door handle to hold the winder knob. Not great on a £30k car, but, hey, it's a Defender!
I had similar thoughts a year or so back and sourced a pair of Disco 2 rear lifters, but I haven't yet had time to investigate further. |

I've been looking at pics and the disco 1 mechanism looks like it might be a better fit than the disco 2 version. I'll order one in the next couple of days and take my door apart to have a look. Ray

I've heard that moving the handle around on the splines so the weight of the handle pull the window closed can work. On newer trucks, the mechanism can be free moving and the weight of the handle (over bumpy roads) is enough to bring the window down. Might be worth a try. Cheers Simon |

^^ if that's the case, could try fitting a felt washer behind the handle and door card to create friction ?
Although electric rears is a great idea, will be watching with interest ! |

It's a 2second job to pull the retaining clip off the winder and move it on the splines. Worth a try.
But leccy windows are so much cooler..
