Utility sound proofing recommendations
As you guys are the experts I'm hoping you can help. Just bought my first defender. A 2010 2.4Tdci 5 seat utility station wagon. It's an Oz import that lived in Sydney for its first 8 years so great condition.

I'm looking for recommendations for the best soundproofing in the back as currently just painted steel. Once sound proofing what do you guys use to protect it? It will be used as a weekend car so normal kids bikes and wellies in the boot plus talk of a puppy soon. I was thinking of ply lining it.

Any photos would be great.

I tried skinz in the roof. When I went to install the DVD player and took the headlining down it had all melted and dropped off the roof skin so I replaced it with dynamat extreme with no more issues. Andy

Looks amazing. What soundproofing and other materials did you use?

Are they the tge side panels?

Did you just screw the storage nets into them?

I bought car carpet off eBay and made the panels from 12mm ply that I bonded in place with Pu sealer. Then put the CSW trims on. That way I can screw anything I want to them. They are solid, and insulated.

Before.

When I did mine, I used a combination of Silent Coat noise deadener, covered with 6mm closed cell foam. It totally transformed it.

More details HERE.

That popular treatments are acoustic material (dynamat/skinz etc), 6mm closed cell foam then rubber matting.

For a more utilitarian finish you could go for an acoustic lineX/Raptor bedliner type paint. Have a look at Buzzweld.

I put 10mm stick on which has made a big difference which i got off Amazon but now has finished stocking but i have seen it for sale elsewhereMayuber 10sqm Aluminium Foil Insulation Liner for Van Car Vehicle Thermal Soundproof Foam 1m x 10m then added ply on top ready for shelving

Obviously this is for work but you could copy and add the accoustic on the plywood without the shelving

Does anyone know how many meters squares of insulation I need for a 110 station wagon. I’ll totally strip out the interior so want to be prepared.

I did the "entire" interior and bonnet of a 110 CSW and used 3mm silent coat in black.
Used 2.2 boxes of the multi pack so you may need three as you have no windows.

Also lined the roof and sides in the 15mm egg shell closed cell foam. Used 2 packs and did the roof, sides and doors on top of the 3mm stuff.
Biggest trick was to heat the car interior up or is doesn't stick when cold.

Call them up and they are really helpful and will give you a decent multipack buy. Links are below:

Heres another tip if you have some left over and put some under the front mats don't stick it down as water will at some point get there and you can't wipe it up if it gets under between that and the metal floor will obviously rust Big Cry
