Changed mine at 160k, towed all its life normally 3.5t Ifor full of woodchip or timber. So cant complain

Minor improvements to blower and flaps arrangements but basically the same design.

Perfectly adequate, but not up to the performance level of modern vehicles.

As above, perfectly adequate and effective if working correctly, contrary to the popular myth that all pre 2007 heaters are useless! My old TDI heater was fine as well.

The other important thing to keeping the cab warm is to ensure all door/vent flap seals are in good condition so you are not getting huge draughts in and letting all heat out (I am sure you already know that! Thumbs Up

My understanding is it can still happen I changed mine last year when i bought my TD5 as oil had migrated along the ECU lead.
It is easy and cheap to replace and maybe should be considered a service item every couple of years.
In extreme cases if left it can destroy your ECU with oil contamination. 2016 Defender Landmark 90

Is the clutch system the same as the 300 TDI? and also the trans brake shoes etc? I know there is a difference with the 200. I bought the spares off my dad, due to him ordering the wrong items. I am starting to sort out spares that i don't need now. Sad Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Master the same, slave different indeed. But same basic system.

The Td5 has a far superior clutch lever though, it uses the same cast item as the V8 rather than the crappy pressed tin Tdi version.

It’s the same gearbox as on a 300Tdi so not sure there’s anything specific about a Td5 giving a notch second gear.

They’re a nice engine to drive I find. More torque than a Tdi but different rev characteristics so you do change how you drive. But the only way to find out is to try some.
