I have heard about oil in the engine loom, Would that be fixed now? also do these have a separate water pump like the 300s?

I had oil in the loom, and subsequently ruined my ecu... But I fitted a new loom, and they are sealed, so I wont happen again. - and it was a great excuse to the wife to spend some more money on it!! Very Happy Wink Thumbs Up

How much was that to fix if you don't mind me asking? and how long did it take you to fix it? Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I have seen two maybe 3 possible replacments, One is down the country and the other is up the country. the other is not that far from me, Only thing that's biting me a bit is the snorkels. I am not keen, my dad had a moan at me, saying you are trying to make it like a car, I said I am not taking it off road. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

As with all cars, drive as many as you can, that way you know good from bad.

I know the later axles had cups for damper bushes, and early ones didn’t. What is the 200-300 differences that you have noticed?

From MA vin numbers, 1994 or 1995, the rear axle changed from drum to disc brakes.
There were other changes at the same time. Different halfshafts and differential (number of splines) , wheel bearings lubriated by grease not the diff oil, oil seals added, bearings no longer adjustable (lock nuts replaced by stake nut).

After that there were various minor updates but essentially the same axle through 300tdi, td5 and puma, for the 90.
On a 110 there was a later change when the disc braked Salisbury axle was replaced by a reinforced Rover type axle.
That was a development of the Wolf military axle, though not as heavily reinforced.

I'd think twice about removing a working egr these days.
Not sure on the current mot rules, but things have been tightenied up and no doubt will be again.
"Is the emissions control equipment in place and operational?" is a phrase that springs to mind.
Don't loose the bits if you do take it off!

The TD5 EGR can’t be seen without removing the engine cover. So it’s unlikely to cause problems at the MOT if you remove it.

Having said that, l removed mine as it was supposed to “improve performance” but l couldn’t tell any difference. Maybe if the EGR was defective you’d notice a difference, but l assume that mine was working. I since refitted it.

The EGR valve was not fitted to the TD5 in all markets.

EGR, easy t9 remove, easy to reinstall, and out of sight. As mentioned you won’t notice any difference performance wise with or without if it’s working, which most are as they are a very basic thing. But then look at all the black sticky shiit that is in your inlet manifold manifold when you remove it. Mine is removed, bagged, and stored away should it be required. As with a CATs, you could remove the internals if MOTs ever become that picky, but can’t see it happening on old motors.

Easiest way is to remove one of the spacers and replace it with a solid one Whistle looks factory and can’t be noticed without pulling it apart. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Thanks grafty for that and cheers for the info so far! I am still putting my feelers out there for our replacement one. Seen a couple but, i think we can still do a bit better, the Scottish one is blew out. Dealer never got back to me on the photos,
three are still in the mix, but one is very pricey sadly Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
