To be fair gren, that kind of reservist is what appeals to people.
Back when i was a regular we used to facepalm at reservists being bone , having no common sense, and overreacting which you may even recall in your time. However spending a short while with the reserves oh dear god, there's a massive toxic rift between the experienced former regulars, and those power tripping reservist NCOs who watch too many war movies and think they're Rambo RSMs in the guards... Honestly all the average reservist wan'ts to do is a bit of hiking, tabbing, fitness, shooting, exercises, the odd parade, and go for a cold one after. Instead its 10 Weekends P1, god knows how many P2, then after that its drill, drill, drill, clean the barracks, drill, drill, drill, Clean the gats that haven't been used in 3 months... All convoluted in procedure this, bureaucracy that... and potential recruits only last a couple of weeks after collecting their training reward. I had no good experiences other than perhaps teaching some of them a few tricks that they should have already known... Blasted metric to imperial consersion and vice versa.
Does my head in, but also gotta laugh about it too. Why keep messing about with swapping one to the other an LR in their incident wisdom seemed to use just about any old fixing they could think of i think! My rant that really, REALLY annoys me concerns our local hospital.
Opposite the hospital a new housing development has sprung up. Obviously as part of the planning permission they were told they had to "improve the road layout". Before it was a single carriageway road with a cycle lane at each side, a grass verge and a very wide footpath. The cycle lanes disappeared at the traffic lights to make way for a dedicated turn right lane to the hospital and a straight ahead or turn left lane (with a similar setup going the other way). As part of the "traffic management improvements" the traffic lighted cross roads have been ditched in favor of a roundabout with a SINGLE LANE on each approach. So now come visiting times and at various other points in the day when there can be a queue to get into the car park it causes total gridlock. Mostly due to idiots joining the roundabout when their exit isn't clear so no traffic can flow from any direction. Also as there is only a single lane joining each entrance to the roundabout you can't get past. The queues sometimes stretch back nearly half a mile. To the fire station. So now both the fire station AND the hospital are blocked by traffic. It's been in the local papers and it's now fallen to the hospital to solve the problem by adding more parking spaces so that people can park quicker to reduce the queues. Now I admit that more parking is needed but it never caused such traffic chaos as it does now. So to summarise: 1) Stop changing perfectly good and functional road layouts for the sake of it 2) Don't then make it the hospitals responsibility to solve the problem 3) Don't enter a roundabout until your exit is clear. The ambulance that you're blocking could be going to one of your loved ones! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

^^ Agree, an utterly pointless and useless feature at every level, should never have been allowed.
The idea has no merit whatsoever. |

On the M6 today, we saw 3 accidents all of which were in the 50mph sections to keep the road workers (who weren't there) safe.
Why don't they work 24hrs a day until the job is done? Instead they spend a few months putting up 8 miles worth of roadworks, with average money making machines. Oops I mean safety cameras. All to not repair a pot hole for 4 years. Aaaarrrrggghhhhh!!! (also as if 50mph wasn't slow enough on a motorway you get people driving at less than 45, causing lorries to overtake and then audis in the outside lane are too scared to overtake as the gap is small.) And, as this rant started, on today's 400 mile journey we did - 100% of accidents happened in the 50 mph limit designed to make things safer!?! Sorry, I know working on the roads is a risky business but for the love of god just get on with it! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

^^^ But read the rest of the story.... it states that
"She added: "The gentleman did actually pass away before they could have helped him" So not because the ambulance crew didn't get there. I'm on the fence on this... I live at the end of a single track lane. at the end of it is an OAP "last stop" bungalow run by a care home about 10 miles away. There's always at least 2x cars there of the staff, and every so often an ambulance to collect the "outgoing" resident in prep for the newcomer. They park right in the lane, blocking it off. Yes they are on an emergency but.... what about the other 17 houses down this lane that need to get to work? Wouldn't take 10 seconds to drop off one of the paramedics then park up somewhere slightly less awkward. And yes, if it was me that was needing attention I would hope that it wasn't causing everyone else any hassle. |

That is a good point but they wouldn't have known that.
If the following quote is true they obviously didn't care either way: โThe way the cars were parked, it was to cause as many problems for the ambulance staff as they could.โ Anyone who purposely obstructs our emergency services is an arse. End of. |
