I had a issue with the transfer box switch. It caused havoc with mine in the wet, loss of power misfires/hiccups and throttle lag it also had problems with the difflock light coming on too in the damp which I changed at the same time
On a td5 it switches maps when low range is selected. Anyway long story short it was getting damp and going closed and open circuit. I followed the wiring back and bridged it so I have one map all the time. Sorted mine out. Easy and cheap thing to have a go at. 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car) 2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |

Both my TD5’s (one bought new) also switch over to the low range map if you apply full throttle while in high range. On the new one l tried to get it sorted, but had no luck.
My 2005 110 has always done it. Is there a solution to this? It’s a pain on the motorway as your foot gets tired from holding the throttle pedal further down in order to maintain speed. |

Wow I can’t believe the price of the crank sensor. I’m sure they were a relatively cheap item, I used to just have a spare knocking about.
I can only think it’s your ECU. I can’t see what else would give you such a random, non constant fault. |

Sounds like the ECU then. Reg the rough running did you reprogram the injectors?
I can’t believe it would be any thing simple to be such an erratic fault. Often tuners have spare ECUs that they lend out. Or stick a wanted add in the sales section. |

The rough running will be because it has the wrong codes for the injectors 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

Correct,,, Did not bother doing the injectors, runs ok, for test purposes
Got home last nigh, and back into office this morning !!! but that is only 5 miles both ways max !!! I have no idea who's map is on the ecu, This was David Bowyer, Goodwinch 90, they used to tow the display trailer to shows etc, doubt its ever been off road, and the map is written for towing Off to do a wanted add California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

Update
So, 5 mile round trip home and back the other evening with the std disco ecu,, all good Just done about 25 miles to Chard with the same ecu,, iffy gauges and poor low down power delivery, but it did get there, Fitted a D2 NNN ecu, with a map to try, switched the pedal from 2 position to 3, now have proper tickover/low speed, gauges that work, and good top end power,,, more importantly,, it got me 25 miles home again So, looking like a very intermittent ECU fault ? I have repaired a few TD5 ECUs with broken component (SMD resistors) inside or with bad solder joints. Probably poor soldering, but because the ECUs were working for more than 10 years, there was no way, how to find this problem during the ECU manufacturing.
It is not easy to find problems like these, especially, when they are intermittent. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo |
