Just to give you all full problem. When cold - and of course not always - my defender either does not respond to the throttle for 1-5 seconds and then accelerates or it picks up revs rise them drop and then it works again. I have had codes read and of course nothing came up. My mate at a small garage up the road checked the throttle sensor and map sensor - he said voltages moved up and down “fine” but he doesn’t know transits of defenders.’
Once the car is hot it works fine. One other thought, could it be the turbo actuator. I see when I press the throttle on my drive it engages the turbo but then backs off again. Maybe of course interrelated to MAF sensor. Thanks for your help. Snowy Snowy |

OK done some reading and now understand that the ECU uses a default map if MAF sensor isn’t attached.... Snowy

Have a search for vcv valve or egr valve. Either will give those symptoms. Probably vcv.

Mine keeps throwing an engine management light since the remap - bought a code reader and I see its most likely the MAF. Hopefully JE Engineering will be taking a look next week to resolve

Snowy I've had this problem too I changed the fuel cap thinking that could have had somthing to do with it to no effect Then bought a LR MAF seemed ok for a while but i think the hot summer helped or i thought it was better Now i'm going to bite the bullet and buy a new fuel pump from Paddocks PART NUMBER: LR009587 and hopefully that works ![]() |

Isnt that a lift pump? From your avatar I reckon yours is a 2.4 which does not have it. Puma 110" SW

Given my reg and checked with LR it's the fuel pump which goes in the tank also added seals and adapter fuel line

Give the MAF and MAP a good clean with contact cleaner first. Run diesel fuel additive (Liqui Moly or similar) for a couple of tanks and a couple of good motorway runs, especially if you often drive short journeys. Also you can run a relearn without replacing the VCV (using Forscan or similar) first to find out if the actual valve is knackered. Had similar problems and the VCV relearn smoothed things out considerably. No reason to replace components that just need a clean and / or reset. |

![]() Click image to enlarge Well this was changed today and there is a differance driving it next job is for the oil leak rocker cover gasket hopefully and not the gasket underneath the next block the macanic said he also thinks there is a falt on the fuel pressure regulator so that will prob be changed at the same time as it was late and he was busy giving other owners their cars back so we will chat about that another time. I wonder if i will ever be able to save up again for anything else |
