I'd love for someone to come up with a battery 'engine ' that can be dropped into a defender.

Yes i know it's practically possible, but i can dream Very Happy

There's already a company that's done it to a RRC so it can be done to a 110 too I'm sure.

For me the ideal would be to get rid of the TdV6 in my D4 & replace it with something as capable as the 'skateboard' in that Rivian - best of both worlds!

+1 about affordable electric conversions for our Defenders. I think the end is near for diesel as privately owned vehicles.... or it will become prohibitively expensive for most of us thanks to government taxes/low emission zones etc.

See "all terrain" Defenders for fully working land rover developed versions that sadly never and will never make it into production now the old one has been discontinued.

Land Rover could never build anything like that - they are too brainwashed towards marketing and big sales numbers and not engineering. LR is too ‘corporatist’ if there is such a word and that makes them frightened of being adventurous (that and forums like this with members that want their cars to look unchanged over their 60 year lifespan........ LR dared to be adventurous with the DC 100 and got panned, now they are frightened to be adventurous with design and engineering) Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

@Tim In Scotland

Three times in the last year when I've been driving somewhere, some kids have seen the Defender and just lit up. One kid grabbed his Dad's shirt and started pointing and the other two both started waving and smiling.
I also see wistful expressions on guy's faces when they look at it in traffic, as if they know they've traded their dreams for more boring, conventional transport.

You're right, there is nothing else in the Land Rover lineup now, or that I've seen on the horizon, that generates the same emotion that the previous Defender does. Definitely not the upcoming one.

New video just up

It looks not only a very interesting vehicle but also a good project to be working on.

Is this really a patent?

"Rivian is raising the ante on the truck tailgate wars with a new patent application for what it calls a “swing and drop tailgate” assembly for its R1T battery-electric pickup truck, to increase options for users who want to access the bed for work space, or for easier loading and unloading."

Looks like the Rivian truck will be similarly priced as the 110 in the states!

WOW

I wonder how long before there is one in bits at JLR Design... Shocked

7 Seater SUV (Range Rover Proportions)
400+ Mile Range
0-60 3 Seconds
360mm+ Ground Clearance
5 Tons Towing

This all looks seriously impressive... SKIP

They'll need to get new senior engineers or a big slice of humble pie ~ this is everything JLR have said is impossible to do with current battery tech...
