Rear step has fallen off
My rear step fell off today Embarassed not that bothered as i have never ever used it, but bit worried about the two big holes left as both the rivnuts came out with the step and bolts, any ideas how to put it back as i said the rivnuts have pulled right out, dont know how this has happened as i said i have never folded it down If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Yep, I had one pull out on a previous vehicle. You'll need to remove the old rivnuts from step (you'll have to grip the inserts while undoing the bolts). Fit new rivnut inserts into the X member and secure step by bolts into new inserts. Steve.

I was told by independent garage that these steps are like autumn leaves - they all fall off when time comes Very Happy Janusz

I saw a step on a year old motor that had pulled the cross-member metal down around the fixing points as though there should have been a washer (or bigger washer/ spreader plate!) behind it to support it more. Are the Riv Nuts giving way or is it the metal distorting?

It's mainly due to the fact that in comparison to earlier models post 300Tdi rear X members are so thin they might as well be made of cheese. Steve.

Grockle, did yours go back for this? My rear step wobbles. It supports my weight but at 110kg who knows for how long!

Out of warranty, and with Lookers on board, the prospect of phoning them fills me with antipathy let alone taking it in for something essentially cosmetic. Any idea what the LR fix is? Some papier-maché?

I did this to mine, had to cut and bend a spanner to fit into the cross member to hold the bolt to tighten Laughing

What is the LR fix under warranty, I wonder how they resolve the problem?

I think mine is on its way out, I can't be bothered with a warranty claim for that and would rather replace it before someone gets hurt, I am considering something like that:

Anyone's tried that?
