Mine does it- I noticed that the rear securing bolt had worked its way loose (and out). I replaced it and all quiet..... for about a month and then the bolt I put in (and thread locked had also worked its way out!!! Have given up for now (until I fit my de-cat).

Mine started rattling like a machine gun one day and I found there were a couple of the retaining bolts loose. Tightened them up and been quiet since. I check them regularly but they stayed tight. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I had the same rattle, as in Glyn's case the rear bolt had vanished, this was replaced and then the front of the support bracket broke, after that was replaced those rattles stopped.

I have a TD5 and had the same problem. When I had a bit of maintenance work done, a little bit of re-work to the shape cured the problem

Yer had it replaced 3 times by LR then got fed up so just took it off !!! 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs
3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

Hi 18Stone , my puma made this noise from the heatshield and your right its proper annoying, the rear most bolt which goes into the manifold had come loose.
The trick is to fit an expansion bolt (not as fancy as it sounds), find a bolt the same thread but 10-15mm longer than the original, fit a short piece of steel tube (10-15mm) over the bolt and bolt the heatshield back on as normal, this piece of tube allows for movement due to heat expansion but doesnt come loose. hope this helps.  |

Can't really hear the heatshield rattling, the noise is drowned out by the rear brakes rattling!
Anyone have a solution to the rattling rear brake 'feature'? |

Not sure how old yours is and therefore how old the brake components might be but I had a really loud loose metallic rattling from my rear brakes on a TD5 110. I replaced the pins and, most importantly, the springs, that the pads slide in and out on. Problem solved. If you have a really recent model then I wouldn't expect the springs to have lost their spring though.
The kit was about £3.00 per wheel. D300 HSE 110 |
