Your light bar set up?
Afternoon everyone,

If anyone is running a light bar particularly mounted on a roof rack, is there any chance of a pic and some feed back please?

I have a flat dog rack and want to mount a bar on that. would just like to see your set up please.

I'm after size, brand, pros and cons please.

I only ask as I'd like to ask the guys who know from experience as the markets so varied.

Thank you in advance

Tom

Looks good,

Few questions... How do you have that wired up off the rack, routing etc, and is it wired into the high beam and separate switch, or ? Output must be incredible?

Thanks

My advice is try before you buy. I’ve had a few roof light setups, and some are horrendous for light coming back through the screen. The lights need to a distance back of the screen,or ahead of it. Also depends on the light design and colour of your bonnet. I’ve fitted them as I dislike the gap between rack and roof, if it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t bother having roof lights, and certainly wouldn’t have just a light bar fitted.

Thanks, I have a Cargobear rack, none slope version, mine is low profile, but the gap needs filling, not the only reason I want to bar a bar BTW. The Cargobear sits back from the screen edge, so should be Ok with glare.

have a look at RigidIndustries offerings, they are expensive but have warranties.

i have a 20" e Series2 bar, awesome output

i took an e-Series 40" bar to the arctic and it worked fine even at -38C + windchill

You get what you pay for

(and before the "known suspects" kick off, they also have (e) marked bars too)

I have 4 LED spots across the underside of my rack, not a bar. They're mostly there because they look cool, and get more use as work/camp lighting than as driving lighting! I agree that light above your head can be counter productive in quite a few situations.

I have one from Raptor 4x4 and its certainly bright, road signs reflect back at you. The coating on the end end sections is already developing white powder from corrosion. Its probably 2 years old now and no signs of condensation inside or faulty LEDs as can be the case with the Chinese ones. Overall I'm happy with it for the price, it's massively brighter than the 40 inch Chinese one it replaced.

Wire runs up the snorkel, using a genuine LR aux switch in the dash.. I normally have a lazer RS8 on the a bar which was on the high beam stalk..

yes, output is incredible.

Thank you for the swift feedback chaps!

I'm set of a full width bar now. Maybe rigid industries, flatdog or maybe terrafirma.

for the guys with the wide bars have the feet married up with the rack slats or did you fabricate brackets?

I'm going for separate switch and will route feed though rear wash hose hole (will make something to bridge gap from rack to hole).

42" sound about right then?

Thanks again guys

Would flatdog or terrafirma ones be any good? Or will they just be cheap Chinese ones they are putting their own labels on?

I don’t know just asking the question.

I would have thought that Ridid industries one, or Vision X ones would be better quality. 4x4overlander (site sponsors) sell vision X ones.

I’ll mix it up with two 20” bars. Only cheap chinese stuff but work wonderfully on the Cornish country lanes. There’s never more than 100 before a corner anyway. They’re about 4 years old. Condensation is an issue and also a few dead LEDs will be replaced with a pair of rigid units in the new year.
