Joining 1984 fuel tank to Puma gauge
Hi all, hoping for some practical advice on sorting out my fuel gauge that isn't quite reading right however.....

I've fitted a puma bulkhead and instruments to my 1984 90 and therefore have an underseat tank and original (1980's) sender. The gauge reads almost right at the top of the scale but shows just under 1/4 at the bottom when the tank is empy.
I've had the sender out and when I move the float get the same range as when its in the tank and burning through the fuel.

Having an accurate gauge is important to me as its a V8 and every extra millimeter showing on the gauge means an extra 400 yrds Rolling Eyes
Ideally, I would like to just fit a puma sender in to my tank however I'm presuming there's a whole host of problems with mounting holes, tank depth etc to work thorugh. Or, can I do something with the original sender to change the resistance so the gauge shows right????

Could you not fit a puma rear fuel tank and sender? You would have to adjust the mounts, but it should fit fine between the chassis rails.

That's one option I'd not thought about but sounds fairly involved. I'm hoping there's a 'electronic' fix I can do Embarassed

I guess so using my multimeter. I'm thinking if I got the same info from a puma sender, I could follow the guide from Geobloke but with a bit more know how?

So if I can fit a TDi sender in my tank which might be a little easier rather than try the TDCi one, it will be accurate on the gauge??

In theory yes - my side tank sender (1988 TD) works the Puma gauges nicely, same as the rear tank sender (Td5).

However, get a multimeter on your existing one to see what's going on with the Ohms first.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
