[quote="ian series 1"]Update,
I’ve sent off all the requested paperwork to DVLA in the week, so fingers crossed I can get it on the road soon? Today I got around to finishing off all the little bits, the new seatbelts needed finishing off, setting up the tracking, Fitting the centre console tray, and wiring up the heated seats. One thing that desperately needed doing was cleaning the carbs out, I did do it last year but didn’t replace any parts, it was very hesitant pulling away, I stripped them down this morning, and fitted a SU overhaul kit, and set the carbs up, which has made a great deal of difference. It now revs cleanly and is very responsive, so well worth doing, Revs are still slow to return to idle though, so I might try a thinner oil in the dashpots? Hopefully now, as soon as I get the V5 I will take it straight down for testing, And get it out on the road for a shake down. Both Carbs are quite worn inside, and had plenty of muck inside, i think the main problem was the needles having a film of varnish over them, which was making them stick? Oh the dekight of carbs . I remember my father soaking the needles in white spirt as he said that the needles were gummed up with residue from the petrol which looked like varnish he would then rub the needles with a cloth and they looked like new. He would also use 3 in 1 oil in the dash pots as it was a very thin oil. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

My old 1976 Range Rover ran a pair of Strombergs, the only thing they would run properly on was LIC32 Hydralic fluid.
I read that if they are worn, to try 20w50 which is what I did, but I think is a bit too thick, and keeping the revs up? I need to experiment with a few other grades, Too thin and it just disappeared 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |
