Ireland 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Stornoway Grey
sounds tempting CR - please send a PM

By the way I phoned Johnson & perrots in Cork yesterday. They have heard nothing about lower emissions for MY12 but said that the motor tax system will change so that the upper limit will be about €1500 so all this proves I suppose is that opinions are arseholes - everyones got one.

I have read all your latest posts to see if any of you got the correct answer from the dealers regarding the motor tax issue

Surprise Surprise no correct info seems to be given !!! from the LR Dealers

When you tax a Defender (N1 class) as a private car this is not based on the emissions it is based on the engine size
so the new engine will make no difference to the tax rate it will remain the same @ € 935.00 a year. This is the same rate if you went to tax your new Transit for personal use.

Have LR said that the my12 will remain as a N1 with the new engine or will it go back to a M1 class because this will change the VRT back up if they do so

So rossy thats a grand you owe me ! along with anyone else who uses the info

thanks CR - cheque in the post as Del boy would say !

I must phone my local tax office to see what they have to say - oops its lunch time they will be shut for an hour (this is Roscommon)

Incidently I have been offered a great deal by J&P in Cork but theirs has no aircon so I'm going to ask on the general section to see if this is 'do - withoutable' on a defender

Rossy got through to my local office. If you buy a commercial vehicle and change it over to private use you pay by the cc as CR says.So long as you can get the 110 classed as a commercial you will be o.k. Looks like you will be phoning around the dealers in earnest now! Good luck and hopefully it will not be too long before you are performing the Defender wave. Thumbs Up 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Its true!

the nice lady at Roscommon County Council confirmed € 935 a year. YIPPEE !!

the emoticons on the left don't have one to convey how I feel.

I mean seriously if anyone is buying a new Defender in this expensive country there's never going to be a better time with the VRT and motor tax both in favour of the punter.

I am likely to be placing my order this afternoon or Monday at the latest. Life is good Very Happy

Been on to the local customs and excise office here and the 110 stationwagon is still on their system as M1. I said maindealers here have them classified as N1. Customs said as far as they were concerned the system still classifies them as M1.Said they would double check and phone me early next week. All is not clear yet! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I'm not sure when the system changed, but, I have taxed my 90 hardtop as private (€935) since 2008. The other consideration for private tax is testing under NCT not DOE.

Can you share what discount you have been offered by Johnson & Perrot Rossy? I looked at their 110 last week and was told it is €39k and no deals to be done. I didn't push them though. It's a lovely truck and good luck if you go that way.

Been talking to Customs and Excise. They are adamant that the Puma 2.4 5 door ,7 seat 110 station wagon has NOT been reclassied as N1 status but is still M1. Dealers selling it as N1 are in error they say.Any vehicle masquerading as something it is not leaves the owner open to having the vehicle seized until the difference or correct amount is paid. There is something askew somewhere along the line. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

many thanks for checking this out spud - you may have saved me from making an expensive mistake.

The dealer has placed my order but no money has changed hands yet and neither will it until I find out whats going on. I'll certainly challenge them tomorrow as I aint going to be stitched up like a kipper. Should be an interesting conversation.......

hi lads, first post on this site here, but am also user on the D3 sister site. being reading this thread. was in dealer with my 07 comm. Disco3 last week in KK and was looking at the 110 SW they had. all this news of M1 to N1 is great it appears for comm tax if your vat registered & can tax comercially, but the way i understand it is and having spoke to the sales rep, it'l still set me, private user, back 2100 beans to tax. so i just want to clarify something based on what 'inthedesert' has posted above! if i bought id have to tax as private! 2011 SW with 2.4 engine 2100/935 tax? which is it? as i know the whole cc to emissions change over to tax occurred in July 2008. inthe desert was your pre july 2008 registered Question

Regards,

irishrover: its E935 by the sounds of it. it includes the 90 as well, passenger version.

A drop to 13% VRT for all models. As Cr has said its E935 based on engine size not emissions when taxing
a commercial vehicle privately.

Tempting isent it ?

well i wasnt aware you that you could do that. seems to be alot of grey areas in relation to this vehicle. i taught it was all or nothing really, either commercial tax at €288 or the €2100 privately! But must say it is tempting. currently have 07 Disco3 commercial and so am only paying the 288 on that. theres a 110 Utility for sale on C.ZONE in grey in Dublin, not gone on the 7 seat SW but that Utility with 5 seats & the commercial space in the back would be to my liking for sure! i was originally going to buy a defender but got the Disco instead! seems tempting alrite but im sure any garage would offer me little against my disco. market is currently flooded!

cheers for the reply and clarification though nu-90! Thumbs Up

after many conversations over the last couple of days all is fine. Build has been confirmed as late July. The only advice I would give to anyone who wishes to buy this year is 'get one while you can'
