Spudfan - its wierd how we PM'd about this VRT business only a couple of days ago !

Youngs in Kilkenny seem to have cut through the speculation and have a brand new 110 7-seater for less than 40k. They are making a big deal about this 13.5 % vrt category B opportunity and have obviously cleared it with the revenue - paving the way for all the other LR dealers.

The spec is a bit odd as here we don't have XS, County etc but start with boggo spec and then add on various packs and options (3k for aircon anyone ?) Theirs is Sartorini black with boosts but no aircon.Personally I want Keswick with the County pack, aircon and get wheels and all the bolt on stuff from Paddocks for a fraction of the price.

I'm going to phone them in the morning

Then I'm off to Bradleys in Galway - might see you there Nu -90 !

but they are saying only €288 road tax for a seven seater - thats going to be interesting. I'd like to see what happens when someone is taken to court for commercial tax on one of these. 1993 110 200tdi Utility in Marine Blue

Looks good but I cannot see the €288 road tax being a runner. My first port of call would be the revenue crowd. Anyway let us know what they say in Bradley's. I still think you will have to prove to the motor tax office that it is for business use-that is where the crackdown is. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Land Rover Ireland are such a pack of w@*%ers they never even said Thanks !

Thanks from me must also go to a bloke in a certain dealer in London who helped me out with some of the required proof (THE NEW N1 STATUS) to go to LR IRL.

Recession Busting Prices i say Very Happy

By the looks of it i dont think Land Rover Ireland were going to Announce Anything about the N1 Status here to its dealers
only for CR wrecking their heads.

If thats the case CR you have saved new Land Rover owners Thousands of Euro's

Quick Question : Dose this N1 Classifacation apply to all passenger defender's eg. 90s as well? Or just 110?

Rossy: Bradley's are in for a shock (bet they wont know nothing about it)

I had a long conversation with a guy at Youngs of Kilkenny today. It all seems quite clear really. He priced up a 110 SW 7 seat, aircon, County pack, boosts, towbar, metallic paint for me and if I was to order today it would be € 43k. Last year that would have been closer to €57k and its purely due to the vrt which has nothing to so with me being Vat registered or not ie anyone walking in off the street would pay that.

If I had a business I could claim back the Vat (as distinct from the VRT). I would also be able to avail of the €288 road tax. As a private user I would pay the 43k but would be paying the full €2100 due of course to the 291g CO2 rating. Putting the road tax hurdle to one side it now makes it viable to buy one here.


Then he said something quite interesting. "Next year its going to have the Freelander engine you know. Solihull told us." Salesmans talk or not - you decide !

I know there is another thread on this but if this is true then it will be worth my while hanging on. If the 2.2 unit is on the cards it is still anyones guess as to whether it will be below the magic 224g CO2 or not (ie eligible for the more palatable € 1035 tax).However in the top spec Freelander it still emits 214g and thats a different beast altogether. Yet both Mitsubishi and Toyota managed to bring the emissions of their 3.2 and 3.0 units (in the Pajero and Landcruiser) below 224g so maybe this figure is some kind of inernational target. They wouldn't do it just to please the tiny Irish market

So I have to dither for another 3 months if I want a new one !

Or get the missus to get Vat registered as something or other.

I see Stuarts and Trinity Motors in Dublin have also jumped on the bandwagon albeit with the same crap spec as the one in Youngs

CR - I hope you're on some kind of commission for this !

Still cannot get over this. In 2008/2007 Land Rover Ireland brought in a 110 crew cab with heavy duty suspension and tried to get the revenue to allow this as commercial. They were refused with the usual story that the loadspace was too short. Also when LR UK reclassified the Defender as light commercials I was told by our crowd that was a different jurisdiction and we had our own rules. Nice to see the change, the only fly in the oinment being the road tax if you have to pay as a private vehicle. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

just another update

I spoke to Bradleys in Galway the other day. They told me that they had verbal confirmation from LR UK that emissions would be reduced to at least 224g for MY12. It will be announced officially by the end of June

Just a word of warning before we build our hopes up. I understand that the new government (via the DOE) is seriously planning to change the VRT/Road Tax regime, as the last effort by the idiotic and now defunct (thank f**k) Greens was too successful in encouraging punters to swap their vehicles for those in Band A and B, resulting in a major loss in revenue. Not sure what hair-brained scheme they will dream up this time, surely the only sane and simple system would be to add a couple of cent the the price of fuel, therefore the polluter pays whatever vehicle they drive. Maybe a bit too simple for the lunatics running this asylum!

CR - the road tax for below 225g and above 190g would be € 1035. If by some miracle LR brought it down to between 171g and 190 it would be € 630. Bradleys were adamant that this was going to be the case and basically told me to 'hold your horses until the end of June'

A 10% across the board increase was mentioned. Maybe a simpler three band system of €250,€500 and €750 could be brought in-they would sell more larger cars thus get more revenue. Bit too simple for the government though. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
