Luckily I haven't been doing anything too complex so that's made things easier. Having a ramp at home is a massive advantage too. The biggest single cost was the new front inner wings at £400. The rest has been a bit of welding and putting various coatings on the shell and chassis to protect it.
I haven't counted the hours I've put in but that's where the main cost would have been. If I were to have put a price on my hours then I would have thought the cost would have been 10 times that when it's finished. I've really enjoyed it though and I can honestly say that apart from my cousin helping me lift the gearbox in, Clayton helping me lift the transfer box in, my mate helping me remove the body and my dad helping lower it back on, I have done it all myself. It's done 100 miles since the MOT now, it's driving much better with new plugs and the Magnecor leads. Once it's proved itself as reliable then I'll be starting the defender 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

sounds good, the 1st few 100 miles are normally the points were you get the trouble. My 1st proper run was down to Mallory pack, then to Silverstone. Proved spot on, and was the only metro to be about Silverstone area lol. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Well after a bit of fettling things are much better.
I don't think the radiator is flowing properly, it's fine at high speed but low speed (30 - 40 mph) under load (uphill) the temperature rises slightly. It doesn't overheat but it gets warmer than it should on the gauge. I'm going to change this and the thermostat at the same time just to be sure. Another thing changed today was that I had made an error on a couple of sensors. Cold and hot start was fine but idle speed was slightly high and warm starting was very difficult. This turned out to be that I had connected the wrong plugs to coolant and fuel temperature sensors. With the sensors corrected and the ignition system completely replaced it runs much smoother and has much better throttle response. First tank of fuel it averaged 11mpg which is about what I expected but it should be better for the next tank as it's running better and is now doing longer runs instead of very short trips. Would agree that the original twin pipes would look so much better Grafty, if you think that the "boy racer" tail pipe looks ok, you need help I'm glad that you have managed to sort out the few niggles that the RRC has had and now that it's running better, you can get the mpg to 8-9 Great it's putting a big smile on your face like your 90 does Clayton. 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Small update today. New radiator fitted which has cured the warm running - it now sits exactly half way up the gauge and doesn't move regardless of speed or load which is reassuring.
The Aircon has been successfully regassed as well. I must say I'm really impressed with it, even in the current heat (31°C here yesterday ) it cools so well I had to turn it down! You can tell it's not a defender So the final thing to do is the LPG system. Once that's up and running then it's on with the defender Click image to enlarge 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Well in all of my driving career (9 years and probably 200,000 or so miles) yesterday I had my first flat
Click image to enlarge Turns out that the valve stem had split as it goes into the wheel. Luckily it happened about half a mile from home so I limped on before it went down completely. Pumped it back up and with a bit of gaffer tape holding the valve against the wheel it stays up. No local garages were interested in changing the valve at mid day on a Saturday and me and Miss Grafty were going out for a BBQ. Only one thing for it Defender to the rescue Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

There is a spare but it's the wrong size. I didn't want to damage the diffs as it's got auto diff lock if it detects different wheel speed front to back. Also I wanted to see what it would look like.
Just been to Kwikfit in Barnstaple and they liked the Range Rover so much that they didn't charge me to put a new valve in! Just going to have some lunch then swap the wheels back. The defender looks pretty funny on range rover wheels 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I also topped up with fuel whilst in town (as it's 8p per litre cheaper than the village) and mpg has improved to 13mpg! About a 15% improvement 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Double figures on the MPG
Worked out my 3.9 last week and getting 23MPG at 55mpg over 300miles so very happy but it does like a drink of water in these temperatures right now. Lovely front nose pic. Keith |

I can only dream of such figures! If mine were averaging 23 then I wouldn't bother with the LPG! Mine isn't using any water but the Kenlowe fans are on a lot! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
