The rear silencer doesn't give much back pressure and I only run the rear silencer. No problems. I don't think a turbo diesel needs any back pressure.

Thanks,
At the moment the exhaust has the middle box removed and replaced with a straight pipe and I am running a small silencer on the rear. Because it is a 1999 TD5 it does not have a CAT. I have been told that you need some back pressure, and I was thinking that if I removed the rear silencer it wouldn't have any at all. Instagram - @Land_Rover_Defender |

I'm not so sure that a TD "needs" back pressure but in any case the turbo itself will create some, my understanding is that the less constriction there is after the turbo the more responsive it will be by spooling up more quickly.

So you think that running a full straight pipe will be fine? Original downpipe and then straight through after that. Instagram - @Land_Rover_Defender

I dont mind it being raspy. I dont drive long distances so I want it to be loud when I do drive it. Instagram - @Land_Rover_Defender

Seems a bit anti social just being loud for the sake of it! 80" 1948

I kept the front silencer in the front pipe and straight through from there - sounds amazing! It isn't anti social until you want it to be. You need to get your exhaust gases away as quickly as possible so better to have less silencers nearer the rear.
I have a mate who went straight through without any silencers inc the front and his kept going into limp mode because of the over boost (remap and intercooler as well) so he fitted a boost box and all was fine. I would keep your front pipe as is and just swap the rear pipe out for a non silenced section |

5 pot do you mean the manifold down pipe? As in the cat you left on or the middle section? 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

How does this affect the new MOT rules. I have removed my mid and rear and need to replace with something, just not sure what at the moment.

My front pipe is standard yes. But it doesnt have a silencer in it? Because its 1999 it doesnt have a CAT so is just straight down from the manifold. Instagram - @Land_Rover_Defender |
