Our 2012 2.2 TDCI 110SW is currently at our local independent having a new output shaft fitted. Whilst talking to him he mentioned he'd just had a Puma with a failed oil cooler which had filled the cooling system with sticky oil which was virtually impossible to clean and ended up having to replace quite a few parts.
I just wondered if anyone has had this issue and what would be the expected life of the oil cooler? Would it be worth replacing? I was driving whilst having this conversation so wasn't paying full attention. As a mechanical numpty I've heard of the fuel cooler, but not the oil cooler? I know our's had the Q421 oil pump update recall done in 2015, is this related? Any info you have would be gratefully received. TIA Photo unrelated but some nice classics! How long does it take to replace the output shaft?
I think mine needs doing and I'm trying to get an idea of cost. |

I've left it to the experts, so will let you know when I get the bill!
I did find this though https://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/f...?769007971 suggesting 3 hours for the Ashcroft replacement so suspect the OEM would be similar? Cheers. 3 hours doesn't seem too bad. Are you going for the Ashcroft part?

Rightly or wrongly I'm not using the Ashcroft version. I've read a few mixed comments on them. I hope I don't regret this decision! James

Interesting to know, thank you. I am rather hoping to prevent it happening in the first place.
Any comments on when or if to replace gaskets or whole oil cooler as part of a routine maintenance? Hmm. The spline needs lubrication. I don't know how new grease may enter the spline if not accessible. They mounted an Ashcroft version on mine just a few days ago. JLR themselves - not a local indie. Only time will tell if it's going to be durable |

I'll be interested to see how you get on with the Ashcroft. Very surprised JLR are using them, almost admitting bad design! Wish id known that earlier, mine was fitted today Lets see who's lasts the longest James
