TD5 Clutch Pedal Mod
Just had this months copy of LRO dropped on my door step which has a few pages dedicated to pedal modifications on TD5 defenders.

One for the throttle (which i dont have an issue with)
The other is for the clutch, of which the Mrs moans about.

Its basically removing the factory fit spring and replacing it with another, all LR bits, cost around £45 for the mod and a bit of skin when fitting the spring.

Has anyone had this mod done of their TD5, some were done under warranty by LR?
If you have done it, is it any better?

Yes did this mod on mine. Took off the long springs (similar to the brake springs) and replaced with a one piece spring and plastic bush. Took about 5 mins to fit and makes the pedal about 50% easier to push. I would recomend this mod to everyone Thumbs Up .

Give me a min and i'll see if ive still got the parts info on it

To do the mod you need; CLP3180 (kit bearing), x2 DCP3212L (bushes), and EDP7510L (torsion spring), cost me £25.41 in 2007, parts coming from Stratstone Aylesbury

Seem to remember it being a bit of a fiddle getting it all into place but is a pretty straightforward job. Cool

Thanks for the info Matt.
Did you disconnect the pedal inside the clutch pedal box under the bonnet?

No, I didn't take the pedal out, theres no need. All you have to do is take the trim piece out of the way by the pedals after removing some screws and a plate (if I remember correctly), prise off the two long springs off the pedal with a screwdriver or a some string.
The new spring sits over a groove in the pedal with the bearing part of the kit and into two holes in the bracket with a bush on each end of the spring.

If I work out how to upload photos i'll try and show you Thumbs Up

Ive had a look at my pedal today, seen the bracket with the holes and the U shaped cut out for the bush.
The LRO write up says to disconnect the pedal, I was struggling to see why.

Will order the bits and give it a try.
Thanks again.

I deffo did it without removing the pedal, but am now recalling that i had to use a screwdriver and long bar to prise the spring over the cut out of the pedal as it is a little fiddly and stiff to do.
Just make sure you get all 4 parts, i tried to get away without the 'bearing kit' as it was nearly twice as expensive as the spring and its only a very small part, but without it the spring doesnt locate on the pedal properly.

You will be amazed at the difference once youve done it though Wink

I am going to be the awkward one here, but as someone who is always annoyed at the respective pedal pressure to operate the clutch on all my Defenders, I would be really interested in this. Is anyone interested in putting together an idiots guide to this, perhaps with some pics along the way to help? From what is being said here, I am finding it really hard to visualise exactly what is being described and what is needed to be done. I would be really keen to get this done on mine, both for myself and Mrs Landy Nut.

Ta awfully

Buy this months land rover owner international mag, page 170.
Has a write up with pictures and part numbers.

I guess you miss out the, remove bonnet & disconnect pedal parts of the write up, every thing else is as said.

If you read the article and buy the bits, take a look and it should be obvious I think, im going to do it next week.

Hears the drawing, you need 4, 2 and 3 on the drawing.

It's the June edition - just been delivered to subscribers, so perhaps not in the shops yet. Should be in next few days I would have thought. Thumbs Up

I subscribed again in January this year and am still awaiting the associated free gift! I keep chasing them up about it and they keep telling me it's been dispatched, but it has never materialised. I will keep chasing until I get it! One of these days . . .
