Might have been a good idea to have asked the questions before you bought it !
Dials - no one seems to have a commercially available kit to get them working yet. They run on can bus and the problem is converting analogue and electrical inputs into something the dash binnacle can understand. My electrical experience of later Land Rovers is minimal but the the TD5 uses a single input into the dash for all the main systems from the small maxi fuse box under the drivers seat. It's very simple in that respect. I can't see any reason why that would have changed. Your best bet is to study the wiring diagrams backwards to see where the power originates. Please don't take this the wrong way but if, 3 months down the line you're still none the wiser do you have the skills to convert to the later bulkhead without your 300 becoming another half finished project on ebay ? Yes it can be done, but is not easy and people have spent a lot of time and money on figuring it out, that’s why there’s no info out there. You need to get the two different diagrams out and start working out the schemematic for
It. Going auto I’d say will make it a bit harder too. Either you need to be a good spark or have deep pockets for this conversion just like Mo |

Thanks for your reply. 3 months on and I am still finding the odd bit off time here and there to build/replace/refurb the running gear. Bodywork is about to go to the paint shop before assembly. I am very capable of carrying out this update, but not too proud to ask if anyone has done it before and know of a good way of doing things. I have seen on other forums that there is a way of linking the 300tdi to the tdci dash, hence the question. I built this 90 from scratch 9yrs ago and am now sadly having to rebuild again after a 90yr old pulled out of a side road in front of my wife. I am taking this time to upgrade and in my view improve it with a modern looking dash and a decent heater. Any advice or suggestions are always thankfully received. Dave,
in my experience, with fitting a later bulkhead, it is best to obtain tdci wing harnesses and rear harness, then it is all, literally, plug and play. If you try and skimp and connect old harnesses you'll end up with lots of work, lots of joints and the potential for lots of headaches. The bulkhead harness is the core of the system, getting power into it will distribute it everywhere else via bulkhead mounted switchgear. Power on a late TD5 dash (into my 1985 90) goes into the bulkhead via an 18swg wire from battery to satellite fuse box. Maxi fuses here distribute to the dash, very simple. I cannot believe they've changed that for the puma. The only thing you won't need is a tdci engine harness. Wiring up the gauges is, at the moment a non starter so you'll need to make a new one up using your old gauges, electronic TD5 gauges (my choice) or perhaps a shiny electronic LCD multidisplay from the likes of demon tweaks. If you get hold of the wiring diagram chuck it over, 2 heads are better than one. Hi Mo,
Your a star, thankyou for your help. I have just ordered both the wing harnesses and waiting for the chassis harness to finish on ebay. That was very useful info and quite obvious really when you think about it lol. That will definately save me a lot of time. I have also located all the Male connectors to replace the bullets on by current lighting setup to fit the newer harness. I will keep you posted on the rest. Again, thanks for your positive advice. I agree with Mo's post. I had a TDCi bulkhead that came with all the dash, wiring, brake servo and heater etc. It cost some in parts just to complete the small amount of stuff that was needed, if you had to find all the stuff it would add up plus the work to join vintage to new.

Sorry, i should have added that I put the new bulkhead on a 1985 90 with a retro 3.9 and auto. I've got some photos posted on another post here somewhere that shows the spaghetti we're talking about!

Woman and children take that part - the good spark well... Like Mo says the way I do them is start with the newer style looms and remove what you don’t need from the loom piece by piece. NOt yet. I have been so busy with work. Ive also been prepping the bodywork for the paint shop too which is taking quite a bit of time. Almost at the point where I need to start the wiring.
