Hopefully one of the more learned wheel and tyre experts will be able to help with this.
Not a tricky question, but I am currently running Evo Corse 7J x 16 ET33 wheels with General Grabber 265/75 x 16 tyres but would like to switch the tyres for 7.50 XZLs. The XZLs are currently on Heavy Duty (Wolf) rims, which I believe are 6.5 inches wide, and I believe that as standard rims are 5.5 inches, both of which are suitable, but would the XZLs stretch over the Evo Corse 7 inch rims satisfactorily? I'm pretty sure it's maximum 6.5 inches but I'm struggling to find a reference to confirm it

If Michelin don't approve the wider tyre for 7 inch then its not going to approve a narrower one. Back to the drawing board  |

I've heard 5.5 to 6.5 before too, but I can't remember where from!
It's frustrating, tyre companies used to be much better at sharing that sort of information. |

but they do the XZL in 235 85 16, which could fit 7" rim.

That thread is really about converting tyre sizes but the table that has some rim width info is of unknown origin. It's not clear if it's the work of the poster or taken from somewhere more 'official' so I'd not be inclined to trust it, I'm afraid. Darren

Definitely shows conflicting advice.
I'm in 2 minds really. On one hand, Michelin don't recommend a wider version of my tyres on a 7" rim, so it seems unlikely they would recommend my 7.50 tyres for them. On the other hand, I see an awful lot of "Euro-look" cars with widely disproportionate rim:tyre width, tyres looking more like rubber bands, so I am sure there is some tolerance in what they tyres will withstand. I'm inclined to get the spare changed over and see what it looks like compared to the HD rim with the same tyre and maybe seek their advice too. I had another thought too when I saw a bunch of demobbed WMIKs over the weekend - they used a mixture of Blindo and Evo Corse wheels in their various incarnations and as far as I remember were also using standard 7.50 x 16 XCLs. Can anyone verify this? |
