Engine clatter at 2100 rpm
Hello All, I wondered if anybody has experienced and solved this issue before?

It runs nicely up until a little over 2k rpm then the tone of the engine changes and becomes more clattery and louder. Just for a second or two. Usually I back off and change gear, or I can increase the rpm a little and the engine smoothes out. My 2010-110 is fairly new to me, but this doesn't seem right.

Also, when I depress the clutch the rpm increases with the same kine of clatter. Only briefly, then the normal engine tone resumes. This only seems to happen when the engine has warmed up.

Is there an obvious place to look to solve this clatter? The car seems to have been well looked after and has only done 75k km.

I’ve also had this before and you swear it’s te clutch making te noise but the exhaust fixings has cracked on the down pipe

Thanks for the replies. I really thought it was more of an engine related sound. I'll check the downpipe fittings. The clutch plate tightening is a way bigger problem. Is there a way to confirm it is the clutch plate, other than doing it?

Ahhh it's difficult because there's a few things it could be. Few other things to check are weeping injectors and rattling turbo heat shield!

Have a quick look on google for “LUK clutch failure diagnosis” if not and it has all the tests in a PDF you can do to narrow down a clutch fault. I’m not sure if you can access their repxpert site if you’re not in the motor trade though sorry.

Hi All,

I thought I just add this note in case anyone ever runs into this problem, albeit unlikely.

I'm ashamed to say that the cause of this problem seems to stem from my overfilling with oil, on the last oil-change. I changed the oil again last night and the rattle has all but disappeared now. I hope I haven't caused any permanent damage. Embarassed
