The poor old Ninety has been evicted from the garage due to building work, so for the last 10 weeks has been living in the corner of a farmers field
![]() Kinda looks at home there though surrounded by hay and sheep, but not ideal so I put the truck cab back on to make it slightly more weather proof. ![]() Anyway after all that time sitting outside, it started first time and was instantly pressed into service pulling horrible blackthorn trees out from the field boundary. A job it handled well despite the aged 2.25 and some boggy ground. Love this thing! ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Hopefully I'll get it back inside soon and can start fettling the bits that need attention. Current job list is; - Revert back to soft top once back in garage. - Replace door catches as only passenger side works. Although I have some ex-MOD split doors I may fit as part of that job but will need refurbing before I do. - Still running a bit rich, so a good service and tune-up. - Replace rusty battery box with YRM ally version. - Have a look at freeing off the low box linkage whilst the seatbox is apart. - Galv chassis and V8 conversion ![]() My 1984 Ninety: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56071.html - SOLD! Agreed, the 2.25 (2.3) petrol engined Ninetys are not so common now.
Even though mine was built as a soft top from new, I have to say that I really like the last couple of photos of Andy's as truck cab. (Remember the early publicity photo of a launch Ninety truck cab in the woodyard, with a load of logs? Lovely!) A threequarter tilt and sticks on the back and it would look proper "ethnic". All those ex-mil diesel Ninetys are soft tops. Common as muck! ![]() |

This one?
![]() Click image to enlarge Agree it looks just right as a truck cab, here's another pic because why not! ![]() Click image to enlarge The plan for this one is as per page 1; keep original but tweak just to make it mine. In an ideal world I'd have an original factory V8 soft top too! Instagram: L90andy My 1984 Ninety: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56071.html - SOLD! Your 90 is very nice. I am now (having moved to a pume 110) hankering after a nice simple petrol Defender (90) myself.......(not that I have room or need one)

You will have to look long and hard for a petrol Defender, Richard.
(You may have better luck looking for a petrol Ninety though!) Petrol Defenders were special order only - and only for a couple of years in the UK. To save you looking too hard, here's one: ![]() Click image to enlarge |

There were the MPi versions, although again pretty rare in the UK. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

I seem to remember a blue very low mileage 2.5 petrol 90 on Ebay a few months ago. It was a truck cab with 3/4 canvas. I think it had around 20K miles on the clock and from the photo's looked like new. I was sorely tempted. It didn't seem to sell at the time but wonder if anyone subsequently bought it?

If it's the same one I saw, it had been rather "done up" for sale, I think by a Dealer and with unoriginal parts, eg new grille and Td5 headlight surrounds (with the louvres).
It looked nice and shiny but somehow, in my eyes, not quite "right". Could be a different one though. |

It may have had a new grill and yes a later one possibly to "smarten it up" to match the polished paintwork, typical dealer thing to do. I did find it difficult to fault to be honest but I didn't go to see it so might have been different in the metal so to speak.

Ok so the building project took a bit longer than planned - who'd have expected that!?
![]() Yesterday was the 'try and find the Ninety in the field' game, at least the farmer mowed as close to it as possible to give me a chance. Here she is looking and being very neglected: ![]() Click image to enlarge It very nearly started, but not quite so a bump off the tractor and we were away! Nice to have it back home, hopefully I can get the rag top back asap and enjoy the summer. Instagram: L90andy My 1984 Ninety: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56071.html - SOLD!
