You are Grey area around vehicles (like my disco) designed pre 98, but post 98 construction - i have been told the regs dont apply - unless it was a approved construction 98 on. Mike |

Isn't it also a grey area about towballs etc - in that the reags state 'towbar' must be approved but things attached to to don't get a mention? Facebook Profile Flickr Photos |

I'm pretty sure you have to have the stickers/plaque on showing the relevant data also. Somebody said you can get pulled up abroad if you haven't got these as proof that your gear is OK. I took mine off for painting then stuck them back on again. The Dixon Bate tow ball has a plaque riveted onto it and the adjustable bar a sticker - beware of cheap copies |

I tested out the rear bumperettes down the side of someones car in the supermarket Hey, not a scratch on the bumperettes, soooo glad I put those on
Moving on swiftly I put the control box on top of the winch and made a number plate bracket that can be easily removed completely or moved forward by rotating the 90 degree brackets around. I have it set further back but by swinging the brackets around the plate is then flush with the front bumper (just in case the ole bill say they cannot read it underneath - just looks better set back a bit!) And played a bit of ELO :D Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

That might have been me - yes the type approval sticker must be clear and visible - i waxoyled over and then cleaned perfectly around it - couldnt see the point in removing it. Again ive always had the dixon bate tow ball and they have the plate rivetted on Mike |

I assume you owned up to it and left a note like a good Land Rover owner should? Someone scraped all the way down the side of my Golf in a supermarket car park and just drove off, leaving me with a fairly sizeable bill for getting it sorted out. They must have known that they had done it. I was not happy! Whilst on the subject, my dad once got the front bumper of his 110 hooked into the front wing of a classic Merc in a supermarket car park and proceeded to open it up like a sardine can down one side. He did own up to it - I think he actually went to find the guy in the store. I suppose he won't have been a very happy boy either! But at least he had someone else's insurance to put it right. |

Have you had the joy of wearing in that new winch wire? Mine took bloodddy ages and it still retains some of the old memory Jack Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Interesting - not yet Jack, maybe using it at work this weekend if all goes to plan. Reading the instructions it says you have to stretch it first so need to play around with it first.....I think I will put rope on eventually to keep the weight down when I get some more pennies together. I was going to take it off when I didn't need it but it does look good so will keep it on. Ive bought a Warn winch cover for the winter.
I won't be doing any offroading with it but I should really go on a winching course to know how to use it properly and it would be a bit of fun - think the old capstans are simpler in comparison, no electrical gubbins to worry about for starters... Wonder why they are not more popular on Defenders - too slow I suppose. Green Machine I nudged the cars wheel arch by 2" which is similar to a Defender one, it just pushed in and didn't scratch it - much |

Great boat, even nicer motor - especially in Silver
Put the last of my mods on today, the Entreq snow cover. Had to take the pic in the garage cos it's raining outside - well I don't want to get her wet do I  Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |
