In the next couple of weeks am going to a workshop to do some maintenance. And I want to tackle this problem once and for all.
The problem is that the studs are coming loose mainly in the summer and on load (caravan, 4 kids, mountains etc). Not the bolts but the studs. What have I done so far. 1. Fitted the thick spacer (bought it at alive) 2. Got bigger studs m10 All with no succes. Any ideas? I run an alive remap, with a bespoke turbo, allisport radiator, allisport intercooler, decat, 100 mm air intake a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover |

But is it sufficient temperature resistant? As far as I can see ir’s Rated > 300 degrees. But the exhaust manifold will reach > 800 degrees? a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover |

Correct but this product is rated to 315 degrees. I haven’t found a product which can withstand the temperatures of a exhaust manifold. a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover

Longer stud into manifold, turbo onto studs, spacer onto stud, nut onto spacer.
A very similar thing is often done on where TD5 exhaust manifolds bolt to the head to prevent the studs from breaking for similar reasons. |

Okay will try that (as well ).
But I'am trying to understand this solution, if it works I don't need to understand it. But what is different? The bolt is put on tight but still the stud comes loose. What is the function then of the washer? a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover |

I have blocks on my Td5, it's worked for the last 5 years

There are cylindrical metal blocks which the bolts pass through before the manifold face

The section in red is the block which expands to keep tension on the bolts
