Twin spare wheel carrier
Does anyone know of one? Second can't go on the roof (Magiolina on there) or the bonnet, or the side panels as its a SW.

I've seen twin arms for a landcruiser but a defender is narrower and it wouldn't work I think. The new safari equip carrier might be able to be modded and I'm going to discuss that with them but just wondering if anyone knows of a firm that does one, or one which could be modded successfully. I don't mind if the rear view is obscured.

fabulous, cheers. on the kaymay site it specifically says single only. but the fitting on the frogs site looks exactly like the kaymar one? anyway, will ring them on tues, many thanks.

I think they are a pair of single Mike, right and left handed, saw a few of them in South Africa mounted on a custom bumper to accomodate the twin pivots. You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things

Mike it might be well worth asking on the South African forums.

There again Kevin Mackman at Nene Overland might be worth a phone call as he is apparently a seasoned African traveller.

Also Barry at Flatdog is importing South African equipment.

Chris at Boab also knows a lot of the Australian gear.

Has Adrian at WVA made a double one?

Might be worth a few phone calls.

If I remember correctly one of the 'problems' with the Kaymar single wheel carrier wa the need to unfasten it and swing it out of the way before opening the rear door.

I am sure that I have seen a photo of a 'standard' type single swing away which had two wheels on. The arms/pivot had been seriously beefed up however.

Solving the problem another way, what about a single spare wheel, a spare tyre, tyre levers, compressors, plus some spare inner tubes? OK tubeless tyres are rougher on inside then tubed tyres but a tube in a tubeless tyre is only a temporary repair.

Question is what are the chances of bending two wheel rims?

W hat sonic said. Also there is no room on the underside of the bonnet on a puma to strengthen the mount.

Maybe Sonic can answer this, as it has come up before.

Does his carrier not have the strength to cope with a second wheel mounted piggy back style just using longer bolts.

With it being connected only to the crossmember, the centre of gravity is as low as you can get, and it appears to be strong enough.... 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey

Not sure that a twin wheel carrier is that straightforward due to the extra forces involved when offroad. The twin arms that kaymar does seem to be pretty robust, but I'm not sure how the italian one works from the pics and if its just that the bolts are longer. if thats the case, then i m not sure how it would fare with day after day or desert corrugation (for example). The new safari equip wheel carrier is a real solid thing, but I need to discuss with them the possibility of two wheels, and also a clamp for a roof tent ladder which I desperately want so I dont need to put a dirty ladder in the tent.
