TD5 with no boost
Hi, can anyone help out. I have a 2001 TD5 90. I am low on power and have no turbo boost (fitted a gauge). Seems to drive normally up to 70MPH with no issues then gutless. I have looked at usually suspects of wastegate, hoses, leak testing with soapy water etc - no issues.

Inspected intercooler for holes - not a problem. No audible blowing from part of the engine. Can anyone suggest anything? The truck has done 200 thousand miles at this point.

Thanks

MAP sensor? Zero boost would mean the MAP, thats what my problem was anyway. Do you have a NanoCom? Double check no boost with that too? I replaced my MAP sensor and all was good Smile

Thanks for replying. Inspected the intercooler - it was clear.

To give you some more background - The truck was going great - quickest its ever been then got an issue. It felt like it was running on 3/4 cylinders. Put it in to my mechanic and he checked the injector seals. Visually checked out ok but they were replaced anyway. When it came back - it drove OK apart from the no boost.

There is no evidence of a engine problem . i.e. black, blue or white smoke etc

Do you think it could be running on 4 cylinders?

Hi Tank, I have ordered a NanoCom and I am waiting for it to turn up. However, I assumed that down stream of the turbo at higher revs I would have at least some pressure. When the truck is reving the Intercooler pipes can be squeezed easily. thanks

Try unplugging the maf and driving around for a bit and see if your power is back. Ray

Check that the injectors have been replaced in the original cylinders when the seals were replaced. Unless they were removed one at a time they can get mixed up. This gives poor running.

Thanks for your posts. I will try the MAP disconnect but my only concern is that it was replaced recently. But you never know. Also, I would like to think that my mechanic (who has a lot experience with land rovers) wouldn't mix up the injectors - but I suppose everybody can have an off day. thanks

It's the MAF you need to unplug not the MAP Thumbs Up Ray

Sorry, just a typo. It was the MAF sensor that was replaced

If you have no boost then it is your MAP sensor on the fuel intake, not the MAF sensor on the air intake side. If the MAP is dead or even disconnected, then you'll get no boost and no power. That was the problem with mine. Check that the mechanic hasnt disconnected the MAP sensor or bent the pins putting the plug back on.

Reading your post again I bet the MAP sensor has not been plugged back in or pins are bent!

TD5 with no Boost
Can any Defender owners with high mileage help me out. I took off the Exhaust manifold heat shield and inspected for warped manifold. No visible signs. It didn't show up anything using soapy water spray.
Link up my new nanocom and checked Turbo pressure. This shows that the turbo pressure gets up to a maximum of 0.15 bar at over 2500rpm - it doesn't have enough to actuate the wastegate. Is there anyone out there who has had an issue like this - perhaps turbo related. Any additional tests I could perform before tearing down the Turbo. thanks

Where is your boost gauge tapped in?

100% all the boost hoses are intact and not leaking? Inlet manifold gasket is in place and not leaking?
