Thanks.
I wouldn’t necessarily call it talent, these vehicles are very basic, it’s more about being prepared, methodical and taking your time.
I’ve been collecting the bits and pieces that I thought we may need together for some time and so far we haven’t been held up waiting for parts. It may well mean we are left with some parts unused at the end, but I will either sell them on or stash them away until needed.
I have rebuilt or rechasissed four or five series landrovers over the years and it can be very satisfying when completed.

Come over to north Essex and I'll train you! Laughing

As gcc130 says, the SI is fairly basic and not too difficult to work on.

Modern Defenders, on the other hand.......

Sorry, I’ve been busy with work and it updated the thread.
GREENI, the workshop isn’t quite as good as it looks, it’s just an open fronted barn, but it is a step up from working outside. By 6pm we were struggling to feel our extremities 😄

By the end of the week we had engine and gearbox in. Electrics and brakes are about 95% finished. Back tub and seat box are bolted in. The new bulkhead is on and I’ve nearly finished transferring everything on to it, that nearly took a day on its own!
The doors don’t quite line up, so a little bit of tweaking to do before anymore bodywork goes on.

I’ve not had chance to get up there this week, but am going to see what I can get done this weekend. The March deadline is looming😳

Slow progress today, mostly trying to line up the rear tub, doors and bulkhead. Just about there now, not perfect, but not too bad.
Turned my attention to fitting a branch manifold to the 2.5l Petrol engine with ACR SU carb conversion.
After a couple of frustrating hours I decided there was no way it was going in without modification. Should have fitted it before the bulkhead, but then it would be impossible to get it out again! I removed the servo, bulkhead mounting bracket, alternator and dipstick tube, all to no avail😡
Standard manifold and exhaust will go back on tomorrow........
