Right then i got asked loads of questions about the steel cable holding my new bonnet down recently and i promissed every one photos at the wwekend, well actually i have done better than that because working in the crane industry it was easy for me to get something made up which was going to be hard for you all the replicate so i took mine off trolled down to Homebase to see what i could find that would be suitable and lo and behold look what i found for the grand total of £6.99 Bargain
 Click image to enlarge The next 2 pictures show under the bonnet reinforcing and the front lifting eye Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Right then i bet you can all guess and now see where this is going !! 
Click image to enlarge Feed the lock wire between the bonnet reinforcing and the bonnet itself it just needs a little push up with your thumbs to make the gap big enough. Feed the lock wire through all three panel gaps and go round again just to loose the length then wrap round to make it tidy. Click image to enlarge Bring the cable end down through the engine lifting point Click image to enlarge Now for the fun bit shut the bonnet down to the lock but not closed lift up a little with your arms right under and close the lock the bonnet should only open 12" to 18" max adjust cable to suit Click image to enlarge Job done close bonnet sleep easy your bonnet will be there in the morning and the next and the next. It is not meggga hi tech but it is not expected the scum will force your bonnet find it won't open enough to clear the hinges and give up they wont be tooled up to be cutting steel wire cables they came to nick a bonnet. Great idea - I also just changed the standard six hinge screws / bolts for a set of stainless steel security Torx screws - total cost less then £5 - you can get them here http://www.a2stainless.co.uk/Land-Rover-De..._ADDB.aspx

Hi I did the very same thing on my 110 usw they cut the cable , I lost the bonnet , all 4 doors and a seat in one night. the insurance claim is 13K.

You cant say you did'nt try it's all we can do is slow them down a bit, must have been parked somewhere quiet that lot did not take 10mins Most will come across someting like the cable and give up and go find soneting easier. I went to the commercial vehicle show a couple of weeks ago and there was a company there locks4vans that had some nice slam locks that i will investigate further when i get my new Defender in Oct If everything is under control you are not going fast enough. Re. the security screws - which would your average scrote most likely not be prepared to deal with - torx, hex or pozi screws?

Just fill all the door hinge bolt heads with clear silicon sealant. Slows them down alot as you have to dig the silicon out before undoing.
Secondary power supply to alarm, if fitted, upsets them also.  |

i know most people will know but incase there is someone who dosen't, just remember that the bonnet can be removed from the car by lifting it to near vertical and just lifting it out of the hindges, can be done in 2 seconds with 2 people, no need to unscrew a thing. i'm thinking about knocking up a guard for the underside of the catch,???????? not even looked yet, but thinking. |

Just thinking
Something that would stop the bonnet going vertical would allow normal use but prevent it's removal. Some form of stop on the hinge using a security bolt  |

common knowledge my friend from 90's to pumas! if someone could design a set of hinges that can only move up to 45 deg angle that would stop them from being lifted off |
